So was the semi final victory at Crewe the same year? If so, that was a tough May, the elation of seeing us win in the north west only to then lose at Wembley, the highs and lows of being a Pirate in one month, not sure we were known as Gasheads back then! This was 1995, we'd been playing at Twerton for nearly 9 years at this stage. The Gashead nickname predated this by at least a decade. On this very day in fact I remember the two blokes sitting next to us had fashioned themselves paper hats in the shape of blue gas flames with gashead written on them. It's etched in my mind because at one point one of them was making the "w*nker" sign at the ref or someone and it was the first time I'd ever seen it. First time I heard 'Gashead' was 1980

This for me was a key game in our history. Im not one to look back at "if only" but I often think, what if Stewart, Taylor or Browning had scored any of those chances, we would have gone up, likely kept hold of Marcus, been back in Bristol within a year in the championship, with a star player in our team. The catalyst then would have been with us. The closest we ever got since was making the play off semis 3 years later. It always bothers me we hauled 80 points in 99/00 and that wasn't good enough for play offs when most of the time that gets you in by a country mile. We had an even better squad 3 years later then Mauge got injured, somebody decided to save the pennies, and the rest is history. Even if we'd made the play offs that season we'd have still lost as the momentum had gone.

Never should have lost that day,how the hell did taylor miss, never felt so gutted leaving wembley, flatter than a witches tit!! I knew it was a sitter at the time, just as everyone else did but had no idea just how much time Taylor had. He could have taken a controlled touch, looked up and passed the ball over the line. The keeper was flying through the air & not a single defender in sight. The same applies to Browning, he came flying in for the first time shot yet had all the time in the world to tuck away our second.

My favourite rovers team.. Also joint best gas away kit along with the green and yellow quarters of about 2 years earlier...we so deserved to win that day.. Marcus stewart was unplayable. Can't believe no one mentioned skins' miss in the first half? That was as bad as Taylors. Such a shame they got rid of ward at that point, he was building something special. Same old story.
