Some big former Premier League clubs in our league next year. Wigan/Barnsley Charlton Sunderland Ipswich Portsmouth Hull Should be interesting! Most of my life Wigan & Hull were div 4 teams ! Wigan ain’t a big club and never will be. When I was growing up Wigan were non-League (only joining the League in 1978)

The Mem maybe a shithole to some younger supporters' but I remember the Twerton years, a shithole but also not ours whereas the Mem is...

Aye I was going to mention them, but I just don't consider them to be at the same "big club" status as the others. Fair comment from yatton too regarding Wigan. Times change though, and like it or not Wigan in the last 20 years have proven to be a bigger club than us. Whether it will stay that way in future is another matter. There not a bigger club then us, but have rather have had more success during that time. Hull are pretty much the same sized club as us before they got there new stadium and premiership runs.

Now that Championship relegations are done and dusted, well almost, here are the clubs competing in League One next season: Accrington Stanley A.F.C. Wimbledon Blackpool Bristol Rovers Burton Albion Charlton Athletic Crewe Alexandra Doncaster Rovers Fleetwood Town Gillingham Hull City Ipswich Lincoln City MK Dons Northampton Town Oxford United Peterborough United Plymouth Argyle Portsmouth Rochdale Shrewsbury Town Sunderland Swindon Town Wigan Athletic* *Barnsley if Wigan win their appeal Strongest League One on paper that there’s been in a few years IMO. Not necessarily? Am I not right in thinking, that Derby and Sheffield Wednesday still have upto a possible 21 point deduction waiting for financial irregularities - selling their grounds to their owners so they could skirt FFP regulations?m Both waiting on independent hearings, iirc.

There not a bigger club then us, but have rather have had more success during that time. Hull are pretty much the same sized club as us before they got there new stadium and premiership runs. I said whether they will remain a big club in the future is another matter, as if/when we get our new stadium I would expect our stature as a club to be elevated to a similar level to Wigan and Hull, quite possibly higher. Whatever sized club Wigan and Hull were before they got their new stadiums is irrelevant in my eyes. They were both recently Premier League clubs, and Wigan are FA Cup winners. Using the logic of "they were a small club before", there are many examples of clubs that were mediocre when I was growing up, that have gone on to far eclipse that status. Aside from Hull and Wigan you have Fulham, Reading, Cardiff, Swansea, Brighton. All similar sized clubs to us "before" they moved stadiums, but the fact is they did move stadiums (or in Fulham's case, redeveloped theirs and had Al-Fayed's backing) and became bigger clubs as a result. This is something we will hopefully be achieving ourselves in the not too distant future.

It's mental that you can potentially benefit financially like this from failure.

Some big clubs down here that's for sure, but there have been bigger and we've still competed with Em all
Leeds Leicester Forest Southampton etc
Easy to think, mind you, that mid table could be about the best we can do

Doesn't sound like it's down to his own failure though "The 25-year-old centre-back has been among the club’s top performers this season"? I guess playing alongside the likes of Bale has led to him getting a decent agent, I assume for two summers running he'll now bag himself a decent signing on fee.

It's mental that you can potentially benefit financially like this from failure. I don’t think he will have had this clause for financial gain, more to protect his career. He’s been one of their best players and given they signed him without a fee I don’t really see an injustice in him leaving. On the wider subject of such clauses I don’t really see a problem. I bet some of the Wigan players wish they had such clauses if they are likely to be relegated due to the actions of a rogue owner rather than poor performances on the pitch. Clubs generally have contracts which pay less if they get relegated, Norwich were recently reported as having around 50% reductions for their players - clubs can’t have it both ways.

Strange that he could opt to leave for Wycombe to further his career....? !

Question: At this moment in time, would fans swap Ehmer to have Lockyer back?

Ehmer is an unknown quantity to us, Lockyer is a known quantity.
Never look back, always look forward.
That's my view.
