Why on earth is the football league trophy going ahead this season? It would make perfect sense to knock it on it’s head for this year to decongest the calendar a bit. I guess EFL clubs can't afford to turn down the £'s playing in the trophy will bring in? Prize money available Group Stage: £10k for a win and £5k for a draw Round Two: £20k for a win Round Three: £40k for a win Quarter Final: £50k for a win Runner-up: £50k Winner: £100k During the group stages Bennett can sit in hospitality before congratulating his teammates for winning his wages for that week!

I believe it’s due to licensing. A sponsor (leasing.com) has already paid up to sponsor the competition for the season and could take legal action against the EFL if they were to scrap it at short notice.
