When JCH left, I thought BG had a replacement sorted and they'll be announced in a couple of days. Couple of days went by. Then I thought we've got a short list and we're currently talking to a few players. Now...I don't think we're even close. No rumours apart from Twitter. When at the start the BP were reporting every rumour and signing. Now, nothing what so ever Plus you never know, potential strikers mate have been put off by our last results Even if it's not true, we might have lost out on other targets. We should have done what Peterborough did and kept JCH until we had signed his replacement. We were probably worried they would look elsewhere though and there were not that many clubs after him. Absolutely spot on. A grave mistake, we haven't learned anything since the Lambert sale. And look what happened straight after when you struggle to score goals or have a figurehead up front?

If we are wasting our budget on a f**king CDM I will lose my sh*t. Depends on if we are wasting it, or making more room. Maybe we are brining in someone to replace Upson, but on a lot less money. Then we can use that elsewhere. Seems weird at the moment, but there has to be more to it. Was thinking the same. Would expect Upson to be on good money so possibly a business decision if true.

Also signed a CDM apparently. Upson told he can go? Striker is from a L1 club that’s all I know We've got Harries, Grant and Upson who can play in CDM already, even Ogogo might do a job there. Do we need another? Tbh I dont really understand what's wrong with Ogogo in the first place

Like others have said, willing to give whoever it is a chance but Hanlon would be not have been in my top 5 targets.
13 goals in 74 appearances for the Gills, 66 of those starts. That's only a little better than 1 in 6 and most Gills fans don't seem bothered if he goes which is not usually a good sign.
Hanlon didn't fair any better with his first league club Colchester scoring just 2 goals in 18 appearances.
Considering how few goals we've got in the team I personally feel we needed someone better, particularly if he's the only striker we're looking to sign.

Southend fans would be devastated to lose Humphrys and already consider him a club legend after just 18 months. Agreed - on paper Hanlon would be a massively underwhelming signing and the statistics would point to him failing to get anywhere close to the goals needed to replace JCH. If he was 1 of 2 strikers coming in (and perhaps the lesser of the two) I could maybe live with it. But if Hanlon is expected to fill the gap of JCH..... well.... we would be utterly f**ked IMO.

If not, it probally suggests he's off. As we played a centre back in midfield instead.

Hopefully Gassy is right and we have someone in tonight or tomorrow. I know the window is open mid October, but that's way too late

The JCH record prior to joining us would have been hugely underwhelming as a replacement for the JCH we actually got.No way would Hanlon be in the top 1 or 2 we were targeting. How it turns out, nobody knows,if indeed it does turn out to be him.

Tbf unless we stop giving away 2+ sloppy goals a game it doesn’t matter who we bring in anyway!

2x new strikers and defensive coach would be good signings

I'm fully aware he could turn out to be an incredible signing - JCH certainly did better than his stats would ever have suggested. But that's why I'm not saying he WOULD be a sh*t signing - just I wouldn't be filled with confidence.
