Seems to me we will lose 3 maybe 4 nil but if this happens i hope the usual meltdown about BG being sacked dose not happen
He is here for the long haul to develop the young players we have and hes brought in.
Mid Table would be fine this season as long as supporters see an improvement over the 44 games.
Next season if no improvement then i guess he needs to go

I think if we are to sign a couple more players would be good to add players with some experience. An experienced striker that could fit the bill for me would be David Nugent at Preston. He seems to have problems at Preston at the moment and has been told to stay home on full pay. Surely there’s a deal to be done that would make him affordable on loan. Ok he’s getting on a bit (35)but has a wealth of experience behind him. Another player I like the look of in midfield is Craig Bryson. He has just had his contract cancelled at Aberdeen. He’s 33 and wages could be an issue but has enjoyed success at championship level.

It’s quite hard to know where the squad needs improving or added to as we are quite well stocked with decent players in all areas of the pitch at the moment. People have pointed out to the striker position as a place we could do with another body but as we only play with one striker, I can’t see us making a major addition there after Hanlan was given the number 9 shirt and with Daly and Ayunga on the bench, a loan from a premier league or championship sides academy maybe.
For me I would look to add another midfielder, someone who can give us a bit of energy in that area of the pitch, get stuck in with challenges to stop the opponent in their tracks but also fit in with Garner’s style of play that he wants to introduce. From what I’ve seen of him, Josh Sheehan would fit that bill but as he’s a player that Newport rate highly, we’d have to pay decent money to get our hands on him, one year left on his contract or not.

I the Newport guy does join us will it mean a change in formation in order to accommodate him in a central midfield role ?

I the Newport guy does join us will it mean a change in formation in order to accommodate him in a central midfield role ? Towards the end of the Sunderland game we switched to 3-5-2 (or 5-2-1-2) with Hargreaves behind Ayunga and JML, so it is feasible that Sheehan and Grant behind either Westbrooke, Hargreaves or Barrett (or even Tomlinson) could operate as a midfield three in games where we think the extra body in midfield is warranted. That could also be flexible enough to play one deeper (say Grant) in front of the back line with the others as twin raiders in midfield in front of the DCM.

Hargreaves was playing on the right when Sunderland scored, as it was him who failed to stop the cross coming into our box after he failed to spot the Sunderland players run. The two forward players behind the No 9 seem to operate more as wingers than forwards.

My guess is that Ben will not move from a back three unless injuries dictate, so for the most part I think it well be will be 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. If Sheehan is coming in I can't think it is to be a bench player, so possibly a more compact central midfield with the wing backs playing higher up the field - we shall see

The more I see of Sheehan the more I like the look of him. He likes running with the ball which is something we're lacking in the centre of midfield and he can turn defence into attack very quickly. Would have definitely helped yesterday, particularly in the second half.
He's No.10 for Newport.

Agree, that’s about where I am. I’ve said I’ll be happy without any more signings and feel we’ve got enough for BG to work with. We played well yesterday in patches and you’re right axe over strikers, we only play with one so why get another? I like Westbrooke, Grant, Hargreaves, But we got overrun there yesterday esp second half and we lacked composure, a MF player who could bring energy and who would run with the ball and find space would be good. I know it’s been two away games against perhaps the best two teams in this league who were both on the front foot but ZW who played well and our midfield struggled for time to play. When we’re at home perhaps they’ll have more time. UTG!

In tough away games (and some of the more difficult home games) I’d prefer to see us go 3-5-2 instead of 3-4-3 and have another CM supporting Grant-Westbrooke in the middle. I think we’re always likely to get overrun in midfield v the likes of Ipswich, Sunderland etc. if we only have two midfielders on the pitch. Something like: ___________Jaakkola ____Kilgour__Ehmer__Harries Little__Upson_Grant_Westbrooke_Leahy _______Ayunga___Hanlan
