We sold him for more than he was worth I think ( a first for us in my time) and I think he’s an average league 1 forward at best but if we could sign him for nothing and his wage was reasonable and weve got that to spare then yeah I’d have him back. Can’t see it now we’ve got Ayunga , the new lad and Davis and the other youth strikers though. I think we need a tough experienced defensive midfielder if Ogogo really is being left out / moved on bevause if grant gets injured or out of form then we’ll have no midfield general / ball winner in the squad. Also I think every team needs an experienced tough midfield general in their squad it’s pretty much paramount to any successful club.

He always gives 100% and chases down every ball - he'd be an asset. If the money is right, it's a yes from me. Wouldn't expect 20 goals, but he can still get to double figures imo

He’s not coming back, but I love Ellis and he was fantastic for us in his last season in particular. Sad to see he isn’t remembered as affectionately as I think he should be. Great team man, too.

Isn't that the case with most rumours until proven otherwise? Not sure many of us thought we had had any chance of signing Ehmer until he signed. Although I'd have thought we'd have kept the No 9 shirt for him if there were any truth in the rumours. No not really I would say some rumours have got a creditable source but not these lot who are literally looking for click bait. I wouldn’t say Ehmer was unrealistic I wouldn’t say anyone who plays for Gillingham is an unrealistic target. Not sure it's really clickbait, as it sounds so unlikely I'm not sure who'd actually bother clicking on it to read it!

I miss ellis, terrific player for us and great character on the pitch. Powerful and difficult player to mark, quite unlike nichols, payne, james,at least 3 recent loan strikers who were simply put into the pocket of the opposing centre-backs week in week out.

Ge still gas 2 years left on his contract would be too expensive Only the same as KB is too expensive for L2 clubs? If Pompey want shot I assume they'll contribute towards his wages in order to free up money for another incoming striker, perhaps we could do a swap and they could have KB back!! Can`t they just have KB back, and forget about anything else?

Would be good if we could arrange a loan in January.
I don't think he is featuring for Pompey and he would help us defensively as well as doing the lone donkey work up front that Pitman is simply not cut out to do.
At this level he will still be a 10 goal a season centre forward.
I think only Sammy's injury problems will keep him here after January. If he was fit, I am sure there would be plenty of league one clubs ready to chance their arm with a £50k bid.
Having Ellis would help give the side a bit of balance and he is well known for improving team spirit.
I think we must be one of the big spenders in the division and unless someone goes (maybe someone with decent scouts may put a punt on Hulbert?), I can't see many coming in, especially for £150k fees that others are talking about.
No buy, no sell, but one loan in, one loan out maybe LT for Ellis. You never know.

Its quite condescending that people think he would even consider dropping this far down.
He's too good for us, move on.

With Pitman at our club a natural scorer I dont see why he can't help one of our young strikers (out on loan) develop and score some goals.

Ellis was a 100% player who gave all and was an exciting player to watch. We desperately need someone to light up the game and whilst we probably have no chance of getting him back we do need someone like him. I am sure it would not be in his interest to drop into the bottom division (yes - that is where we are!) although I am sure he would do an excellent job for us and would love to do so. Good luck to Ellis who deserves good things, better than we can offer at the moment.

No buy, no sell, but one loan in, one loan out maybe LT for Ellis. You never know. You're right that he's not been featuring much for us. He's come on a few times in the last few weeks having recovered from an injury, but it's hard to see how he fits in to the managers plans. I think he's on relatively decent wages but will only have six months left on his contract come January. We're pretty tight to budget and our manager is keen to free up some funds to strengthen in January. On that basis I'd imagine there may be a deal to be done if some wants him on a permanent deal beyond this season. His move to us really hasn't worked out; but I think little, if any, of that is down to him. He's been really unfortunate on a number of levels. He seems like a good guy - wherever he ends up next I hope he gets a move that works for him. I also expect Lee Brown might be available - if not in January, he's out of contract at the end of the season - he's done a solid job with us.

We enquired about Ellis in the summer and he doesn’t want to come back. I saw that at the time, but circumstances change. He's only got 6 months left on his current deal. If he can get a permanent deal for 18 months in January (even if we end up subsiding his wages till June at his current level), it may be preferable to him having to scrabble around for a deal along with all the other out-of-contract professionals in the summer. To adapt an old Ian Holloway press conference quote - in the summer Ellis was looking for a date in the nightclub around midnight. He might want to lower his expectations now; rather than getting involved in a free-for-all just before the lights come up.

I think if we had been at the sharp end of the table with a possibility of a return to L1 a fairly good gamble then we may have stood a chance of revisiting it. But we are currently indifferent, 7 points off the play offs and most likely to be in L2 next season.

The way people are talking its like he has actually done something of note recently..
