Bristol Rovers are bracing themselves for bids for highly-rated defender Michael Smith this summer.
Sky Sports understands the likes of Brentford, Barnsley and Peterborough are all monitoring Smith's situation at Rovers following their relegation from the Football League.
Smith has attracted the interest of a host of clubs after an impressive season for Rovers despite their relegation.
The 25-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract at the Memorial Stadium, was named in the PFA's League Two team of the year last term and also scooped the club's player of the season prize following a stellar campaign.
Bristol Rovers are reluctant to lose Smith and have offered him a new deal, but they may struggle to match offers from elsewhere with the player keen to play at the highest level possible.
I hope he 'does a Rickie' and signs an improved contract so he can get a decent earner for next season, and then move on the season after and still let us get a decent fee for him.
It's not fair to make him play lower level footy for too long but I would love it if he at least gave us 1 more year.
He has improved immeasurably at Rovers so maybe feels something in his heart for they way he's gone from an unknown NI league player to a very good English lge player, with several accolades now.
All four of my beautiful, lovingly produced Rovers books are available as printed books & NEW eBooks. 'Away The Gas' is packed full of over 50 years of 'I was there' away game moments, all written by fans. 'Print That Season!' is an alternative season review for 2014/15, with none of the hindsight that most writers rely on, 'Double Darrell' does the same for 2015/16 but using even better sentences, and 'Back to the Future' is just a shameless continuation!
