Who will get to the Championship first. Tom Nichols or Bristol Rovers?
Not sure where I’d put my money.

Pleased for TN. For what ever reason it just didn't work out for him here. He didn't do much when out on loan, perhaps being our player in some way put a hex on him.
It should be remembered that his hat trick today was against a National League team His first goal was a penalty. I well remember him missing one at Northampton which would have put us 2-0 up. He of course missed, but it didn't matter because we went on to win 6-0.
The next game we went to ashrewsbury and got tonked 4-0, but that's a different story.

I said all along that a loan into L2 would have rebuilt his confidence. In any of the first 2 seasons with us. Perhaps every manager was right when they said he was excellent as a pro and in training.
L1 is getting tougher with the teams in the division now and it’s a bigger step to L1 than it was 10 years ago.

I watched the yesterday as I always had a soft spot for Torquay & in all fairness Nichols during the initial 90 minutes was neat & tidy with his passing but nothing outstanding. Apart from the penalty he really started to show his ability & extra bit of class in extra time when the Torquay defence were running out of steam & their legs were shot. But fair play to the lad his headed third goal & through ball for the winner were quality.

Look at the teams that have gone up and done well, Luton, Wycombe, Lincoln etc. All 4 teams that went up from League Two last year are above the relegation zone this campaign whilst the League One sides that went down to league two, Tranmere, Bolton and Southend are really struggling. League One 10 years ago + used to be really tough with the likes of Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds, Southampton. We went down in 2011 with a side that wasn’t that much worse than the one we had now.

2 fantastic assists as well. I always thought he shouldn't be playing as an out and out attacker. Looks like he started on the left wing but had freedom to drop in behind the striker and operate between the lines. I think his biggest problem was dealing with the pressure tbh, he was playing in front of decent sized crowds for us and when we got on his back he just got worse. You never know, he might have fared better this season without the crowds in the ground but then again, I do think he's found his level at Crawley.

As Crawley are currently well placed in L2, it is conceivable that they could be playing BRFC next season, and then we really might discover whether Tom is (1) able to play in L1, and (2) if we did not get the best out of him while he was with us. There are many instances in football, as there is in life, where a person fits nicely in one situation but not in another although the situation seems much the same. I do hope we get the opportunity to judge next season.

Well done TN, the header was an excellent goal. Crawley scored 6 goals and looked a good attacking team, last time we looked like scoring 6 in a game was way back in DCs time. He seems to have been doing well all season so perhaps their style suits him. And from what I remember JCH always said he liked to play alongside Tom. Whatever, it didn’t work out here but good to see him doing well imo. UTG! or even 3?
