If you follow the dont change a winning team you stick with Westbrook. It's a risk as having westy and oz in the team is a bit risky as both are a bit lightweight and somewhat luxury players but both have talent. I suspect westbrook will start and may get replaced by McCormick in the 2nd half.

It seems to me that BG was very much in the mould of a lamb to the slaughter. He came into L1 management without the first idea of what it was all about, broke up an established team of wily pro's who were doing it for a manager who'd spent his playing days at this level, replaced them with kids and tried to get them to play tippy-tappy football. opposing managers must have been laughing their socks off, especially when their wily old pros had managed to com the ref a few times to send BG into meltdown, whinging and whining after the game. I know it's all very well saying things in hindsight, and I am on record as saying Garner should have been given more time, but what was the BOD thinking when they threw him in the deep end without even an older DOF to give him some wise counsel? Agree with pretty much all of that except he should have been bombed out last season. Two things saved him I think. His compassionate leave, and circumstances at that time, and then later the win v Sunderland in the last game before lockdown. Agree with that apart from the Sunderland game which i was out and the team by their celebrations seemed to be motivated by Craig reaching his milestone in appearances

Perhaps it’s because I was on the Somerset side of Bristol but I've always seen the Argyle match as a derby because it’s the south west. And it used to be one of the fixtures I always looked out for. Doesn’t make much sense when you look at the miles but it’s more about the bragging rights in the south west esp if you went to a school (like I did in Taunton) where there were Argyle fans. Perhaps it comes down to where you live or used to live. Doesn’t much matter except for those for whom it does matter I guess. For some it’s always been a derby, for others it isn’t and has never been. But if we win tomorrow I’ll be even happier than I was last Saturday! UTG!

Interesting watch. Twentyman does his intervies very differently. PT is a very calculating manager. Excellent and very interesting interview, well done to 20Man for asking some interesting questions which give us a nice insight into Tisdale's methods and philosophy.

Local derby ? We’re playing Plymouth. Over 100 miles away. League clubs closer than Plymouth;
Bristol City - 5 miles Newport County - 26 miles Forest Green Rovers - 29 miles Swindon Town - 40 miles Cheltenham Town - 40 miles Cardiff City - 41 miles Reading - 78 miles Exeter City - 81 miles AFC Bournemouth - 84 miles Oxford United - 85 miles Birmingham City/Coventry City - 86 miles Walsall - 89 miles Aston Villa - 93 miles Wolverhampton Wanderers - 100 miles Southampton - 100 miles Wycombe Wanderers - 102 miles Brentford - 111 miles Fulham - 114 miles Chelsea - 115 miles Portsmouth - 118 miles AFC Wimbledon - 122 miles MK Dons - 123 miles Stoke City - 123 miles -------------------------------------------------- Plymouth Argyle - 123.9 miles
If Plymouth is a local derby then 25% of the whole Football League is.
Officially a “ West Country” derby 😉

Call it what we want If we get those three points tomorrow then that will be f**king beautiful and if we lose it takes the shine off of every Gasheads weekend. UTG Nail on head. Miles between the clubs? Meh! Is it a derby? Meh! Record between the two? Meh! Current form? Meh! Result at 4:45 tomorrow is all I am interested in.

Of course! At school in Bristol in the 1960’s we had Bath City fans and that (Bath) seemed like miles away but amongst the borders were several Argyle fans (mainly from Taunton area but one actually from Plymouth). They took the game very seriously. Almost as seriously as when they play Exeter. Probably an age thing again (before aeroplanes) but we always travelled west for holidays (even if only Weston 😀) but Plymouth was the gateway to the magic of Cornwall. Going there since to watch us play has always been happier than going less miles east (except Oxford lately as we’ve won!). It’s almost worth going there just for the pastie van I found up the hill opposite the ground years ago - still there last year but get there early, sells out an hour or so before the game as he’s so cheap! I think a lot depends on who you know regarding derby games - if you know (and like) someone who supports the opposition it’s always more interesting. Perhaps that’s why I’ve never really been bothered about Swindon (apart from our ex players).

Brilliant interview- he’s someone you can’t help but warm too. We talked about DC understanding the Gas culture and ethos, but it seems to me PT always wanted this job as equally gets it if not more than DC

I'd call it a West Country derby as there aren't many clubs in the South West are there? So it gives it a bit more spice. A derby need not be that localised - like the rivalry between Crystal Palace and Brighton. Over the years we've usually been in the same division and "enjoyed" a similar amount of success so we're roughly on a par with them. Also, for the historians out there they're the source of our well known anthem! Palace to Brighton 42 miles, which is only two miles farther than us to Swindon which is our closest derby apart from AG. Newport County?

So far Plymouth have played 3-5-2 in 14/15 of their matches this season. The goals have come mainly from Luke Jephcott (I used to know a Mike Jephcott I wonder if he is related?) with 7 and Connor Grant has chipped in with 3. Jephcott (20) is one of the two center forwards where as Grant (25) plays in midfield, which looks like, position wise, is a bit fluid. Unsurprisingly Jephcott 1.7 and Grant 1.3 take the most Shots per game Gas comparison: Nicholson 2.2 and Hanlan 1.9 Key passes per game for them are George Cooper (MID) with 2.4, Danny Mayor (MID) with 1.4 and Joe Edwards (DEF) 1.4 *Assume Mayor is suspended following a red card against IpswichGas comparison: Westbrooke 1.8 & Josh Hare 1.4 with Ozzy climbing up fast currently on 1.1
Winning the ball back are Lewis Macleod (MID) with 2.3 and Will Aimson (DEF) with 2.3 Tackles per game Gas comparison: Cian Harries 2.2 with Mark Little 2.0 then Josh Grant & Dave Tutonda with 1.7 (only one of these now seem make the starting XI so Baldwin 1.5 and Kilgour 1.4 are probably worth showing) Clearances per game wise they have 2 Centre backs Kelland Watts (21) with 4.6 and Niall Canavan (29) with 3.7 Gas comparison: Cian Harries 5.8, Jack Baldwin 5.1, Max Ehmer 4.6 and Luke Leahy 3.0 *Please note - League stats only + Strengths
Shooting from direct free kicks Strong Attacking down the wings Strong Creating long shot opportunities Strong Creating chances through individual skill Strong Creating scoring chances Strong - Weaknesses
Stopping opponents from creating chances Weak Defending against through ball attacks Weak Protecting the lead Weak Aerial duels Weak Defending against attacks down the wings Very Weak Plymouth's Style of Play
Attacking down the left Take a lot of shots Rotate their first eleven Play the offside trap Non-aggressive So in Plymouth we have some former players which might like to put in a worldy against us but seem similar set up to Wimbledon in their formation and where the goals are likely to come from. We have shown now that we can create chances which hopefully reduces some of the fear that had been building up as we found ourselves in the bottom four and not exactly playing football likely to get us out. What a difference a strong performance makes. On paper we should beat this Plymouth side however we must be careful as they are well organised and find themselves 2nd in the total amount of corners they get in league one and you know we love defending them. You could argue that the quality of the corners are such that the defending side keeps putting it behind for another etc but I would feel more comfortable with a team with zero set pieces against us. Expected team (no changes to the Wimbledon set up). Despite our win against Leyton Orient on tuesday, I don't think anyone particularly showed PT enough to take a place in the starting XI vs Plymouth and I haven't heard anything about injuries so I would expect the same line up with maybe some different faces on the Bench. I would also expect Ehmer to retain the RB slot especially with Plymouth favoring attacks down the left... This will be a real test to whoever we place at RB in my opinion so we can expect a lot of love or hate come 5pm I'd imagine. -----------------------Jaakkola------------------------ ---Ehmer---- Kilgour ------- Baldwin ------Leahy--- ---------- Grant ---------------- Upson--------------- -------Nicholson----Oztumer----Westbrooke-------- -----------------------Hanlan------------------------- I am confident that we can turn the home form around in this one especially now heads seem to drop a lot less then previously when/if conceding a goal. Plymouth have lost their last 4 and they are looking like they are there for the taking so I'm going for a 3-0 to the Gas here. What do you think? What would you do? *ahem* finally a prediction
