401 League minutes played since January 2020, that's the equivalent of four and a half games. An absolutely dreadful signing by an absolutely dreadful manager.

Ignoring the fitness issues, I've seen absolutuly nothing in the few appearances he's made to suggest he'd be of any use to us. He hasn't even made any impression in the U23's. Not good enough. Get rid.

Get rid. We have the same situation we had with Bennett, he can sit and pick up a wage or we get him fit, joey said our pre season was a joke. Get him fit, or send him out on loan.

He's pulled his hamstring twice I can't imagine that's an injury you can just pretend to have suffered in order to get out of playing games? Joining Rovers was probably the worse thing a player who struggles with fitness could do, given the comments JB has made about our preseason training etc. As a club we're probably as guilty as the player himself for his poor fitness record. its not a coincidence, that when lambert left us, was told to lose a stone, and recently JCH, again looked a lot fitter than with us. So I do think we need to be looking at our fitness regime. Pretty embarrassing really Perhaps the team are trying to be too 'politically correct', and we have physios who don't want to 'Body shame' anyone. You can imagine Widds, "he's a good lad, just don't mention his weight" Being the weighing factor on his performance...! Get running lad, I've lost more weight in 16 months and I'm not even getting paid 😅

If so Barrett’s condition is appalling for a pro.

When you're getting paid to be an athlete, Barrett's attitude has been appalling. He's had long enough to quell any mental health fears. Get fat? Don't make the starting 11? Surely there's only one way out. And that way doesn't involve pizza. We've probably paid off his mortgage without a second of a game played (my stats are 11 appearances.. Vs Wikipedia's 4 apps). To pay a footballer this long, who is overweight and not making the grade, just goes to show the commitment to his profession, let alone the quarters

The problem is we made too many of these types of signings. Players who had the unfulfilled potential around their necks for many years. At some point, the person has to take responsibility for themselves. Barrett has never appeared to take responsibility for his condition seriously enough to want to nail down that starting place.
Wayne Rooney was never a Ronaldo in terms of physique, but he was as fit as a butchers dog and you could never label him as fat, bulky or overweight.

It must be the Rovers Way. I bumped into Chris Lines before he left us, coming out of the Jolly Fryer (as it was) with a large Doner and Chips

I think it’s unfair to be making the players like Barrett and Bennet into villains here. It’s the club that’s been handing out the contracts. If I had problems in terms of being fit to work and, despite my best intentions, knew I might have prolonged time out and struggle, I’d probably snap the hand off any employer who offered me a good wage and, more importantly, a few years of security. Morally right? Not sure, but if you’ve got a family to take care of ...
I do get a club at our level taking a chance on a player who could be great but has fitness issues (and DC seemed to like to take a ‘high risk, high reward’ approach, which worked out with Bodin but not Bennett) and it must be tempting to think, ‘if we can get this guy fit and injury free then what a player we’ll have on our hands!’, but I now wonder if we steer clear of this in future.

It’s 2021, it’s all about zero responsibility and having empathy for peoples bad decisions.

I dont think its unfair to make an example of, and ask the players to work for the inflated wages that they are all on these days; Barrett - No excuse for a professional footballer to be out of shape for this long Bennett - Looked good when he first joined so what went wrong? Couldn't even perform in a poor Grimsby team a league lower. Seems the type of player who gets complacent when he has got his feet under the table at a club.

When he comes back after the summer break ,like all the players they will get a medical and fitness test no doubt. Those who fail that wont be given squad numbers and advised to look for a new club. They dont have to of course. But a player with very few minutes behind him and not given a squad number for a few seasons is basically not going to play pro football again.

Coventry fans mentioned he was out of shape and they had him from Jan 2018. Thats at least 3 years carrying extra timber. It doesn't look promising for the lad unfortunately.

It’s hard to believe he was starting for Reading in the Championship just before joining us. Really doesn’t reflect well on us as well as him. He arrived under Garner, whether he was his or Widdrington’s signing and quickly cast aside by Garner. There will be an underlying reason why he isn’t shifting the weight, whether that be mental or physical. I wouldn’t be too judgemental. It is a hell of a waste, though for all concerned.

There's a player in there no doubt and he's been desperately unlucky with injuries. I'm sure JB is laying down the law for what shape players should be reporting back for pre-season and if Josh isn't in shape then I'm sure he'll be moved on. In his hands now I rarely disagree with you on anything but I havent seen a player in him at all. Hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard. Is that from Confucious?

The situation regarding Barrett letting his talent go to waste anybody remember in 2000 Simon Bryant another wasted talent

God, give me strength. This is a PROFESSIONAL football club. The excuses being made for Barrett are exactly why this club is in the shape that it's in.
Holiday camp Rovers. Easy pay day Rovers. Losers mentality Rovers. What an example players like Barrett must set the younger lads coming through the system.
This lad has basically taken the p1ss out of the club ever since he showed up. I couldn't care less about injuries, that's what happens to you when you're badly out of shape - you pick up niggling injuries. He has nobody to blame but himself. There's ordinary people all over the city who have managed to get themselves into good shape this past year and that's when working full-time during a national lockdown.
Even Ben Garner, a glorified P.E instructor, had to discipline the lad because of this situation. That basically says it all.
And if anybody who thinks Joey Barton, who takes personal fitness extremely seriously, is going to stand for this situation for much longer then they're going to be surprised.
I see Barrett being sacked in the near future. We need to draw a line in the sand that this type of behavior is no longer acceptable at this football club.
