I think you are harsh on Southgate. I'm not totally sold on him but he's done a good job overall. I agree about not so many world class players but I think there is more strength in depth in this squad and more of a togetherness. Maybe. I’ve just got no faith in him when we’re in a tense knockout game and he needs to make tactical changes. Everyone talks about how he got us to a World Cup semi final but it would have been a disaster if we hadn’t got that far given the easy route. When it came to the crunch semi final he did nothing to respond to the oppositions tactical change and there was an air of inevitability that we would tamely go out. Still he’s a very safe pair of hands for the FA with no skeletons likely to come out and he says all the right things in media interviews! Yeah I agree with pretty much all of this. I can actually see us having an awful tournament tbh. The WC was certainly paper over the cracks, but hey we still did it anyway. Then we seemed to do really well in the Nations League, until it came to actually beating the Netherlands and lost. I haven't been impressed with us in the Euro qualifiers at all tbh, Southgate was a bit of fresh air at first with team selections, but now he seems to pick the same 6 players then with a mix of youth, which on paper is all good - but what about the players actually on form? Then there was this years nations league where we were absolutely dreadful. Beat Iceland with a last minute penalty, picked up 1 point against Denmark and 3 against Belgium (which was fair enough). Then recently against Poland we were lucky to get another penalty to win it. Our defence is really rocky and Southgate only makes them worse with wanting to play it out so much - as soon as a good team puts pressure on the defence, we'll collapse. Apart from that though - I'm really confident

England probably too short simply because we don’t tend to have a good temperament when it comes to these tournaments. The likes of Pickford and Walker scare me to death! Belgium and France have obvious chances but their prices reflect that.
Fitness is going to be absolutely paramount in this tournament after the gruelling season we’ve had. For this reason, Germany appeal to me. They play less games in the Bundesliga and I can also see Werner’s pace being key. He still looks pretty fresh and is going to come good sooner or later in front of goal. I tip him for a big season with Chelsea next year. Portugal are also a bit too big with the class they have in their team. Croatia each-way value at around 40/1. They have some good up and coming players and have a big tournament temperament.

My prediction for the Euros...Portugal. They've got a lot of talented players again now, and they often seem to be overlooked. They're a much better side than the side that somehow eked their way through to winning Euro 2016.

Talking of France, I see Karim Benzema recalled to the squad for Euro 2020 after a six-year absence.

You only need 3 points to be guaranteed a place in the knockouts. Portugal drew their 3 group games last Euros and ended up winning the damn thing. Ironically, I think our best shot at getting very far is finishing 3rd and progressing in our group...

Can't see past France to win the whole thing, but England do obviously have a really good chance and also I like the look of the Portuguese, as Jomo said.

Someone will drop an absolute clanger and my money is on the keeper.

I think this a good opportunity for England to go far in this competition and even win it.
The likes Spain, Germany, France and Italy ect aren't as good and the dominate forces they used to be.
England are good enough technically to win it imo but will be the same old England that can't handle the pressure of the big stages.

Apart from that though - I'm really confident Are you confusing the Euro 2020 qualifiers with last years Nations League group stage by any chance? We were playing some sensational attacking football in our qualification group. Winning 7 out of 8 matches, 5-0, 5-1, 4-0, 5-3, 6-0, 7-0 & 4-0. Not much there to not be impressed by, we really were on fire. Yet I agree, the latest Nations League group stage wasn’t overall impressive, albeit being played out in the midst of the Pandemic last autumn. I’m very much looking forward to these championships, there certainly is no outright favourite and the France group next door to our own, has some brilliant fixtures in store.

It’s a strange European football dynamic, because I probably fancy the likes of Portugal, Belgium and the Netherlands to go on and win this more than I do Italy, Germany or Spain. I’d take the Semi’s for England. Euros are harder to win than the World Cup is nowadays with less teams but equal standard of competition. Would be very surprised if France don’t at least get to the finals with the squad they have currently.

Anybody that says otherwise is probably going on German's strong record historically.

A little bit, we started the Euro qualifiers strong but ended poorly IMO. When we’re playing teams like Bulgaria I look for the performance and style of play rather than the score line. But yeah fair point

Had tickets for the Croatia game, but missed out in the reduced capacity ballot ☹️ I lost out on all my tickets mate. Had all group games and this morning just found out from UEFA about losing my ticket to the final. And of course, UEFA are telling me my the transaction was successful - but my closed bank account are telling me it never came, because it's closed. About £900 I'm missing so far. Have either of you received email confirmation yet? My Croatia tickets are still showing as allocated on the portal but not holding my breath. No email yet.
