Not strictly Rovers related because you don't have to be a Rovers fan to attend but it doesn't do any harm!! If you are aged over 50 (which is the only Criteria) and fancy joining what must be one of the biggest growing sports then WEDNESDAYS at the Gloucestershire FA Buildings Almondsbury 12-30 till 1-30 might be just what you need. It costs just £4 and we have a Whats App group where thew teams are selected the night before and you will be asked to wear either a white shirt or a dark shirt and that is it. It is played on artificial Grass and the size of the pitch and number per side depends on how many turn up but we require a minimum of 10 to make it worthwhile. We are hoping to get to about 8 or 9 a side which is the target so if you want any further information then please reply on here or message me.We are a friendly bunch and play for fun ie we do not participate in a League or anything like that although if you enjoy it and fancy playing competitive then that can be arranged with other mem bers of our group. Give it a go. I started five years ago and really enjoy it.

I joined the Rovers team run by Peter Aiken a few years ago - it was great fun and a good way to help with fitness.
Rovers were about to play in a Southwest tournament which included teams from Exeter, Plymouth, Yeovil and those from the dark side.
During the trial match (all Rovers players) a team mate playing on the other team came in a hard..... He fractured two of my ribs.
It took more than 9 months to feel comfortable again. I also couldn't celebrate the way I wanted to when Lee Brown sent us up! (too painful)

It's a fantastic way to get a bit of exercise and movement. Many are put off the thought of getting fit by seeing images of runners and people in gyms, thinking they won't be capable any more.
But fitness is all about small steps, and even if you only ever take the small steps, it's all good for the body and a positive mental attitude. Things like this really do make people feel good about themselves, and it's very achievable for most.
Great initiative.

Would highly recommend anyone interested pop along to any session & have a look, see if it’s for you. All skill levels welcome. Over 100 members, not all play, but there is a great camaraderie

The 12.30 to 1.30 at Almondsbury can be very useful for those over 50 year olds who have not yet retired and fit the hour in their lunchtime. the advantage is also that due to the varying size of pitch there we could accomodate anything upo to 26 people ie 12 a side. For those who hung up their boots years ago and never thought they would kick a ball again I can thoroughly recommend it. I gave up playing back in 2002 and started going to the gym but hated it- in 2015 I started playing Walking football and couldnt even stay on my feet for the first couple of weeks. i now consider every member my friend and can't recommend it high enough.

Love this Steve, it sounds positive for eveyone's mental well-being aswell. I wonder if this could be linked in with the work we do with Talk Club Bristol Rovers and incorporating the well-being rounds before and after a session - we have quite a few links with football teams, running, golf etc. These are the rounds we run for a main session, but are condensed for groups involving sport or exercise: HOW ARE YOU? OUT OF 10? Let’s Talk Club about it. Talk Club meetings are based around 4 simple questions: 1. HOW ARE YOU? OUT OF 10? 1 is low. 10 The best day of your life. You say your number and try and explain why. 2. WHAT ARE YOU HAPPY ABOUT? What moments from the last week are you really grateful for? 3. WHAT’S YOUR PLANS FOR MENTAL FITNESS THIS WEEK? Exercise? Relaxation? A lunch time walk? Saying it out loud means you’re more likely to do it. 4. HOW ARE YOU FEELING NOW, OUT OF 10? Check out numbers help you see that by letting stuff and supporting others there can be a lifting in mood. That’s it.
