If there’s a player in him somewhere then it’s probably because he ate him. Shouldn't this be in the What's for dinner thread?

He must be doing something seriously wrong for Barton to say he has "lost his way a bit" I think even Barton is right on this one.

Oh so now he's ready after stealing a wage from Bristol Rovers for the last 2 years.. He is ready to get fit and not actually fit? f**ks sake. What's he been doing since we released him, just staying unfit playing on his Xbox/PS? It beggers belief he's bagged another 2 year contract, it may have release clauses, but why not just offer him a contract til January.

Joey Barton was right about me - new Linnets signing
New King’s Lynn Town signing Josh Barrett says his former boss Joey Barton was “spot on” in his frank assessment of the midfielder’s future. Barrett, 23, parted company with Barton’s Bristol Rovers last month and this week signed a two-year deal with Lynn. “He’s clearly got the talent for that, it’s just can he knuckle down and show the discipline and desire needed to play in the league,” said Barton on Barrett’s exit. "It saves the club a bit of money and it allows Josh [Barrett] to get on with his career because he’s a talented boy no doubt about that, but he’s got a lot of work to do to salvage his career as a professional footballer.” Painful words, perhaps, but Barrett – who signed for Rovers in January 2020 from Reading - believes his controversial former boss is right. “Obviously me getting to know him he is not what everyone thinks he is,” said Barrett. “He is a good guy and I think I was able to talk to him personally, because he knew what was going on with me, the other things that were going on, so he was brilliant with me. “As soon as he came in he said he wanted me to get back to playing, but obviously I was struggling with my injuries. “It was a shame it didn’t really work out because with his character he would have liked somebody like me. But he is spot on. I can’t disagree with that, I had a talk with him when I left Bristol – he sent me a text and I had a conversation with him, so what he said is probably bang on – just getting back to it and being able to play as much as possible and forget about all the injuries. With Rovers the injury side was always there, it was hard to get over.” Barrett made five Championship appearances for Reading in 2019-20 before his nightmare spell at Rovers, and says his ambition is to return to the Football League – starting with the Linnets. “For someone who is looking to rebuild and hopefully get back into the league it is a great place to come and develop,” he said.

His Instagram post 12 weeks ago shows him doing some fitness work. Unless he spotted a ginsters behind the camera? Got a fair few followers too considering nobody ever sees him on the pitch! https://www.instagram.com/p/CRougyVMk30

“Rowley was replaced by Josh Barrett and the new signing made an immediate contribution as Lynn took the lead for the first time in the match. A neat piece of skill saw the former Reading and Bristol Rovers man tee up Linton who crossed to Clunan.“
Really pleased for Josh, starting his King’s Lynn career positively today. Hope you can kick on now and show what you can do. Football is a really unforgiving game and he deserves a change of luck.

I’m glad he played a part in the winning goal. But I’ve no idea if he is a good player or not, I never saw him do anything to show he was. He played his part today against Peterborough Sports who I think are at Level 7, Southern League. It’s not his fault we’ve been so bad since January 2020 but he was never fit and frankly his attitude was poor. Good luck to the young man but he will need to improve his attitude even before being ready to play competitively in professional football.
UTG!

Madness that this guy gets more praise than Tom Nichols. It’s not praise for his performances, from me anyway. It’s just an acknowledgment that life has its ups and downs and God knows, I’ve been there. Sometimes you need a break and I wish him well. Most football careers end badly.

It was known that TN wasn’t the strongest mentally yet the amount of abuse he got compared to JB is baffling. I’m not saying it’s wrong, just two situations of players having a hard time yet one was still putting performances in despite getting sh** 24/7. The other played a handful of games for us and was really speaking as useless as Kyle Bennett was for us. TN still got sh** when he left yet JB gets everyone’s best wishes?

You’re a good person 2nd May to cut him more slack than most would. He does need a break but it will only happen with the right attitude. UTG!

I think a lot of people wished Nichols well. It was clear that the pressure weighed heavily on his shoulders here and I agree that he had a great attitude. Whilst it didn’t work out for him at the Gas, most of us could see he was a decent player. I’m really pleased he’s gone on to do well at Crawley. It’s a tough side of the game, dealing with the abuse players have to deal with from the stands and online. There seems to be an expectation from fans that the players in return don’t show any signs of mental weakness when they are continually being told they’re useless and can’t hit a barn door in Nichols’ case, or in Barrett’s case, that they’re fat and lazy and stealing a living. Some players can turn that around and use it as motivation, but it’s not always that easy for many reasons. You can see why some players can fall out of love with the game.

Nichols career at Crawley seems to have down hill since Max Watters was sold to Cardiff, just 1 goal and 1 assist so far this season.

If that’s an up to date photo he should be embarrassed. Shocking for a professional footballer.

Can’t be that old he’s only been there a few weeks! The highlights from last week's FA Cup tie are on YouTube, he's clearly put on some timber. I guess he was correct when he tweeted he needed to get fit.
