Hard to tell these days with most "undisclosed". There are usually enough good players out of contract in the summer not to spend fees, but if a contracted player is good enough to impact your team and you feel he can make a difference then it is worth splashing out. Indeed. As you said, Sam Nombe to Exeter is a great example of a club doing great business when paying a fee for a player. Said at the time he could be a good signing. Powerful lad with a bit of pace, always had potential and Luton were happy to give him minutes in the Championship. Looking like a decent bit of business.

It's interesting that many of the outstanding performers in L2 the last couple of years have been players that have pretty much come from nowhere. If the Gas had signed Nombe most of our fans would have been pretty underwhelmed. Other players such as Telford this season and Paul Mullin last season, most would never have pegged them as being the next profilic scorers.

Players develop at different rates and sometimes it just clicks at a certain club and sometimes it's confidence gained from minutes played. Many other different variables too.

Only seems a short time ago the Earl of Guernsey funded the rugby stadium makeover and 82 were splashing £5m on a striker.. After selling there best players for millions they suddenly have no pot to water in now?.. Oh the irony..
I'll make sure it doesn't keep me up at night however 👍

Paul Mullin with 8 goals in 10 games looks like he's on course for 30+ goals again but before last season he had never even got into double figures

Before Cambridge his goals to starts record isn't too bad if you look at it. 28 goals in 68 starts for Morecambe, 10 goals in 26 starts for Swindon and 12 goals in 24 starts for Tranmere.

Our records may be similar but not really comparable given the opposition e.g Barrow or Fulham, Harrogate or WBA! I don't waste time fretting over their fantastic facilities, and like it or not they are fantastic, or their status as a competitive championship side. There supporters seem to be frustrated at their stagnation in the championship but i do not believe Mr Lansdowne is going to throw millions at the dream of reaching the promised land and he is probably right in not to do so, that is a dangerous game as others have found to there cost. They are struggling but incredibly only 5/6 points off play offs and though in a lowly position have enough in hand to stay clear of bottom, given the form of those down there. Our own form, though still not convincing is indeed encouraging in a league of mediocracy and we certainly look capable of avoiding the dreaded drop, as for challenging at the top end, i am still hopeful, i keep hearing JB's words' it may take till Christmas for things to come together' now that would be a nice present under the tree!

Exeter signed Sam Nombe, Josh Coley and Kyle Taylor for fees, Harrogate signed Luke Armstrong for a fee, Orient signed Harry Smith and Aaron Drinan for fees, Mansfield signed Ollie Hawkins for a fee and Carlisle signed Jordan Gibson for a fee. But did any of them go for anything over £50K, which was my point, small fees are still paid, even we're paid and received them but nothing substantial, even Pompey now seem to have stopped splashing out. Posh paid £1m+ for JCH last summer but only after they'd received a few £m for Toney. (Hawkins 4 goals and no assists in 15 games suggests paying a fee is a waste of money anyway!) To be honest Topper the quality of player in this division is not great, so much so that the best player (imo) is probably Conlon of Port Vale, previously released by Stevenage. Im not surprised nobody has been signed for over £50k if true. These days unless you have a very good youth system like Crewe or scouting network you are going to have to pay the price for quality if you want to get anywhere. Our club record transfer fee paid is still above average compared to other L2 sides, but look at the small sides in this league with us. We should be competing with L1 anyway at our natural level.

Pezo Pezo Grand Master Members 4.4k Posted 6 hours ago 7 hours ago, OneTeamInBristol said: I wonder whether the effects of his 2 bouts of Covid might still be affecting him. Or the stress of trying to steer our club through financial turmoil.
Talking about the manager not being in attendance for tomorrow’s game. Teds in financial turmoil? Must admit I didn’t know the Bristol Sport empire was going tits up 😂 😂

We have crappy ground, crappy management, and no idea how to elevate our team out of the FORTH level of the pyramid. Whilst they are above us in every respect - money. level, division, support, and respect. AND their owner has more money and respect than ours!
