Not saying I necessarily agree with JB’s approach with Thomas, but 0 goals and 2 assists in 12 L2 appearances is a very poor return for a player of his undoubted ability. I guess Barton has decided that criticising him publicly is the last roll of the dice to get more out of him, and we just have to hope that he’s right. It's not like he's impressed anywhere else recently, Thomas looks like he's on the same career path as Barrett. Hope the has a home then.

Again, handled very differently. People here have a habit of comparing JB to DC in their methods. The only thing they both achieved was relegation, whereas it’s fair to say DC wasn’t to blame he still took the blame. JB was part of the problem yet took no responsibility. Insult to DC to even mention them in the same comparisons. You also can't compare the Harrison situation to Thomas, as the former was a contracted player we simply couldn't offload, Thomas' loan deal can simply be ended in January at no further cost to Rovers. If we're going to discuss DC's failings them what about the way he dealt with Connor Roberts loan spell with us, why agree to sign a player then basically refuse to play him. At least JB is giving all of his loan signings game time. You can sign loan players as back up? They’re not all to go into the first team.

Really, we sign a Premiership youngster just as back up, I wonder if DC explained that was going to be the case to the player and his club.

Can’t really understand why we moved Grant away from the left wing back role when he’s been flying (and scoring from there)Anderton,to me,looks so slow and has very little composure for that role, surely there was someone else we could have shuffled in to the right back position and what’s happened to Hoole?

Grant is very versatile. However i would say he struggled last night at right back which seemed to affect his whole game. He has been very good at left wing back recently. Problem is Anderton and Harries are left sided players. And the shortage is on the right.

Hoole's apparently wearing a "boot" according to a poster last night so it looks like he's also out for a few weeks, so unless JB did something risky like playing Nicholson or Thomas at RWB I doubt he had any other options, apart from giving Jones his league debut. The restricted squad size and the inability to have short term loans really does over any team who loses now a number of players due to injury. We now have nearly a full out injured: Jaakola Hoole, Kilgour, Hughes, Clarke Anderton(?), Rodman Clarke, Saunders

View AttachmentShape of that back four for their equaliser looks like an absolute mess to me. Surely as soon as their defender gets his head up to launch a long ball up to Elliot, Grant (blue) and Anderton (orange) should be falling in next to our CBs to create a flat back four to deal with any flick-ons to Salford’s runners out wide? Whether Elliot flicked it left or right we were in big trouble because Grant and Anderton were completely out of the game. Straight from the start of the second half grant started further forward on the right and I suspect he was told to do it. Trouble is, he seems to produce more and is more effective on the left. We should be playing him to his strengths as he is a game changer. The reason we got caught out imo was that we were caught again effectively 3 at the back. A great first half though cuz we played like solid back four
