You can get lateral flow tests. Best bet is to pick them up from a pharmacy this close to Christmas maps.test-and-trace.nhs.uk/They’re supposed to be used to check yourself when you dont think you have Covid. If you think you do have covid you can get a free PCR test but pretty sure you’re not supposed to get the home test kits unless you actually think you have it already. You can buy the PCRs privately but they’re really aimed at people who want to travel abroad. Your best shout is to get a pack of the lateral flows and get a proper test booked in if you need one. Thanks G&E, I’ll order some laterals now, seems strange you have to book a test if you’ve got it, surely you may be not well enough to go out? Much appreciated. If you think you've actually got COVID then you can order a PCR test in order to carry out the test at home: www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

I think you might be right. This is escalating rapidly. Those 6 matches cancelled so far for Boxing Day will be about 66 by then, and it can only get worse. Especially if they allow hundreds of thousands into stadiums, which they won't, imo. Looking at how fast and easily this virus spreads and its ability to break through vaccines, I can't help but conclude that at present going into a packed stadium is high risk. Clubs are in a difficult position as they need money from gates and bars etc. but it's certainly not without risk both to those attending and the wider community. Nobody seems to have explained why Omicron is so transmissible compared to Delta etc, assuming it's still airborne transmission then it's surprising England hasn't already followed Wales etc in banning fans attending games, although apparently we usually follow them, eventually, anyway.

That's the trouble at the moment. We cancel one. Two clubs affected. Someone else cancels a game with us. The same thing happening all across the Football League. These things happen at short notice with no chance to play an alternative fixture. It's going to lead to a huge backlog of games. I'm not sure how they'll cope unless the season is extended. Another problem being the new season starts July 30th! Is that because of the November World Cup?

Really hope the next 2 games are on. Back in the west country for Christmas and was planning to attend this.
As I live in London, I've got my tickets for Crawley & Orient already - would be sods law if they're played behind closed door as well!

The doom goblins are sure to have football in lock down as soon as they can after Christmas. Doh.

Over half the games cancelled for Boxing Day now, with more sure to come.
Oddly though, no Scottish Premiership matches are off. Tough as a dried up haggis, these Celts.

Anyone know the process for getting a refund on tickets purchased via ticketmaster? I did it recently for a game when I had COVID. Believe I pinged an email to brfctickets@ticketmaster.co.uk and they refunded straight away. Efficient service.

Think it's a bit different as they are not dealing with Scunthorpe refunds.

I’m no scientist, but I always thought the reason any virus was more transmissible than older versions was because the mutations that take place allow it to either bond easier on human cells or spread/multiply itself faster once infected.

Seems to not be the process for Scunthorpe (or all away?) but probably worth noting just in case - the staff were responsive so may put you on to the right people at the club if they can’t do it themselves.

I'd still like to see the scientific reasons which apparently are "out there". I'm not sure why you can't just Google it. There are loads of sources. Apparently it replicates in the throat and mouth much faster than previous variants, leading to greater transmission rates when people breathe,.cough or sneeze, but is much slower to replicate in the lungs, allowing the body's defence's to fight it off before being overwhelmed. www.advisory.com/daily-briefing/2021/12/20/omicron-transmissibility Not a very seasonal post! I'm back to my bottle of vino rouge now.
