Exactly. I think Hughes would be the first to admit that he performed poorly, but I don't think he was fully fit at all while with us, which is a shame. According to the interview with Mangan (?) a few weeks back, Hughes has been a big help behind the scenes during his injury, which is more than a lot of injured players would do. Perhaps he was only helping as he knew that his playing career was over and he saw his future as a coach, we've probably been paying him a decent wage whilst he trained to become a coach. And nobody has ever learned new skills in a job prior to moving on.... He was on the payroll as a player, injured, and decided to help out with coaching during a period where he would otherwise be contributing nothing other than being another face in the treatment room. The fact that he used that time wisely to better himself, I say fair play to him. If we could have offered him a coaching role here with equal or better terms, we probably would have.

Only 4 teams have conceded more than us so he couldnt have been helping that much, and there are some dire teams in this league We don't exactly have an experienced defence though. So it's hard to say if he's helped or not. It may have worked out better anyway. I was impressed with Connor Taylor in the Plymouth friendly game but took Hughes' injury for us to start playing him regularly

He makes the Max Ehmer signing look half decent I don’t know lmw, I actually wish Ehmer had got injured in the first match of last season. I think we’d have been better off, or would we have noticed the difference! (Of course I’m not wishing injury on him but I hope you know what I mean.) 😉 UTG! edit: sorry Jomo, just read the whole thread and saw your earlier post, which had the same sentiment as mine.

Not saying Ehmer was any good for us as he clearly wasn't, but Hughes was even worse.

Ehmer always looked as if he couldn’t give a ****. At least Hughes has proved valuable to the club in his coaching whilst injured. But on the basis of one match it’s hard to say. But, tbh, it’s a very low bar isn’t it? We’re starting to argue about who’s least crap!! ☹️ Just a sign of how bad it’s been for two years. UTG!

My main memory of Ehmer was him beached at 90 degrees on the sandbanks of the 18 yard box while players merely sidestepped the rusting hulk to hammer goals in.

Yeah at least we did get something back from Hughes I guess. Now to find a solid reliable replacement!
