Thought it worth mentioning how good they were yesterday IMO. Bunch of friendly young lads who joined in the banter and even our singing towards the end! Clapped us on the way out. What a change from the many jobsworths we have all met over the years!

Stewards, caterers and police really are the public face of football. Makes a lot of difference when the face is friendly. Couple of lads working in the away bar at Swindon were nice and chatty. Have found that bars at grounds you are allowed in are a good experience. I'd assume potential trouble makers wouldn't kick off right on the teams doorstep as the 'clientele' are families and the like. Fleetwood very welcoming, as is Oxford.... yes Oxford. Head Steward at Walsall was a lovely bloke. I know people will moan about the policing of the late scenes this year but he was friendly to everyone whilst keeping an eye on those that needed a hand to their seats 🤔 I assume the Thatchers bar is home fans only due to capacity and that they do have a bar of sorts outside the away end. Of course this whole niceness is easily ruined by the idiotic few

What a change from the many jobsworths we have all met over the years! Wonder if it’s anything to do with them being non-league last season? When we were in the national league I found a lot of the stewarding more friendly and relaxed than in the league (although admittedly only went to half a dozen or so away games that season).

I went to Sutton with my schoolmate Pete who has supported Rovers for 61 years but now lives in Oxted about 15 miles beyond Sutton. He booked 4 tickets in the Home stand living there and on the basis that his partner and her twin are Sutton supporters (the twin living 2 miles from their ground). He also had the foresight to arrange a blue badge parking pass. We turned up in his 4x4 complete with GAS registration to be met with lovely smiles and thumbs up on waving the pass. Waved in to clear instructions as to where park up. Politely warned not to rush out as we would be held back till pedestrians cleared. We went round to the stand to find our seats and ……. We could hardly see! There was a flipping great big wooden casing around the column immediately in front of us. The steward that had directed us up to the seats had watched us get up there (one of the twins has a stick these days) and seeing us still standing came to see what the problem was. On arrival he said ‘Ah, I can see what the problem is. Did they sell you these seats cheap as obstructed view?’. Nope. He took the tickets, checked them and then said “I’ll see what I can do, it might take a few minutes but please wait here”. Just as the ladies are getting jittery he came back and says ‘Follow me please’. He opens a barrier and takes us through to the next section of seats and says you can have this 4 in the corner, they’re a bit nicer for you. So we are virtually on halfway 4 rows from the front and notice the section has a little sign saying “Away Side Directors, families and friends”. A few minutes later Tom Gorringe arrives to sit in the front row with 3 others (one I think was a past director Barry Bradshaw?). Lucked out there. The people behind and to the other side of the barrier were a bit blinkered in how they saw the game, just as we are, but there was never any animosity to us. We did debate an offside briefly with a guy who’d missed their player coming back from a yard offside but then decided to keep quiet rather than push it as we did seem to be getting our fair share of the decisions for once, particularly regarding people making backs. After the game everyone was friendly and wishing us a safe journey. We didn’t see any police. What a contrast with Swinetown. Good point earned and what a prospect Elliot Anderson looks. UTG!

On our experience a fantastic club, missed out on tickets so booked two home seats only to have the club contact me to cancel due to our Bristol address and police advice, subsequently I rang Sutton and was granted permission to attend after all on the proviso not to wear colours and be respectful. We were invited to attend the club house and met the gentleman who helped, every Sutton fan & official we came in contact with were fantastic, made for a great day and I wish them the very best, dare I say it was almost satisfying that the game ended in parity it was such a friendly place.

These comments re Sutton are a joy to read and certainly a credit to the club. To add to these comments. A Rovers fan for almost 70 years I have lived in Cheam in the London Borough of Sutton for about the last 40 years. There was a period in the 1980's, with a young family and excessive work commitments, that I fund it difficult to find the time to travel up and down the M4 to watch the Rovers on a week in week out basis. My wife suggested that to get my football fix I take a walk down to the local team, Sutton United, and watch them. At the time they were in the Isthmian League. I did not know what to expect but found an amazingly friendly, very well run club staffed by very capable volounteers. For some years, before pressures eased and I renewed my Rovers season ticket, I watched Sutton on a regular basis and was even a Vice President there for a period of time. It was nice to watch a team, that you wanted to win but it was not life or death if they didn't (with me and the Rovers and it has always been over the top life and death relationship). Saturday was the first time that I had been to Sutton United for a number of years. Sat in the Sutton stand with a local friend (poor thing is a Scunny fan who was continually checking the Scunny v Oldham score!) and it was nice to see that the club still has the same feeling about it. Having always operated within their financial constraints it does worry me that if they go further up the football pyramid that the financial pressures etc could destroy the great principles on which the club has been built.

Exactly the same at Harrogate earlier in the season. Stewards very welcoming before on arrival and wished us a safe trip home after. One of our supporters, an elderly gent who should have had a disabled space, which didn't exist, was taken to the other side of the ground and seated in the corporate seats.

When I lived in West Sussex I used to watch my local team Horsham FC on occasion. It was all very friendly and relaxed, and never any trouble. In 2007 they played Swansea City in the 2nd round of the FA Cup in front of a bumper crowd of almost 3,000. Managed a draw but got walloped in the replay.
They have a nice new stadium now. It's small but facilities are good. Everyone connected with the club is friendly and most are volunteers. The only dislike is reserved for local rivals Crawley Town, who are massive these days compared to the Hornets.....

Think the higher up the football pyramid you climb the more you attract different, more entitled types of fans, at the lower level All your fans are dedicated , loyal, followers, meeting these fans and being blown away by there dedication was about the only consolation from our season in the conference .

Someone was doing it on a train from London to Bristol the other week. Loads asked him to stop but he wouldn’t. The conductor asked him not to. I asked him to stop and he told me to eff off. So I grabbed the vape and threw it down the carriage and told him the next time it would be out the window. It’s just inconsiderate.
