Last time I went to Vale was ( I think) the first game of a new season after getting promoted. We may have drawn 🤔, anyway it kicked off outside big time . No idea why ! Probably you with some throw away comment. Oi

There isn’t a great deal on there to be fair. Apparently the vale front 3 were exceptional. I think they were all injured for the game at the mem. I watched that game but thought we played a lot better than Vale against them, up until their equaliser We were the better side for the majority of the game even with 10 men. They had key players missing and we are much much better now so it’s all set up for a cracker.

Robbie Earl scored in both games, he was bloody good mind. But as someone said the following season more than made up for it.

Toughest game of the run in this. Was Having a read on the Salford forum earlier about their game Tuesday and their absolutely Raving about vale being the best they have seen over both games this season. Im more surprised to learn that Salford have enough fans that are bothered enough to create a forum! You would think that they would just have a WhatsApp group! 😀

Futcher only got yellow carded for a headbutt on Jock in the first leg, then setup Earls goal. I wont complaint much as the following season wasnt too badÂ

Vale fan here! I fondly remember the 1989 play off matches against Rovers. I didn't go to the first leg(when somehow Ron Futcher only got booked for a headbutt on one of your players!). Two things stood out for me in the match at Vale Park. The atmosphere(think there was nearly 18,000 in attendance). The second thing that stood out(and has stayed with me ever since)was the reaction of your fans at the end. En masse your fans clapped the Vale team off the pitch as well as your own when you would have been absolutely crushed with disappointment! Walking away from the ground your fans on the coaches were also clapping the Vale fans. I just thought that was utter class and I've had a soft spot for you ever since!! Hope you enjoy your trip up to Burslem and really want you to get promoted(you're too big a club to be in this tinpot league!)but obviously not at our expense!! My hope is that you beat Swindle in the play off final with Harry McKirdy missing the decisive penalty in the shoot out! Good luck(apart from at Vale Park!) PS We're bringing Robbie Earle out of retirement for this one😂.

You were 10 points clear of us and in third place weren't you at the time? Disappointed but little did we realise what a following season we were going to have, happy to have traded that in hindsight.

Robbie Earle became known as 'f'king Robbie Earle' for a few months after that play off defeat in my household.

Just let us remember should we lose in the playoffs, that going up as champions might beckon next year.
Never give up and all that.
Rich, this is your cue….

Many moons ago when we lost there a Gas yob was dragged along by the pitch after he'd been arrested and the locals were bemused at his 'T' shirt which was emblazoned,'Tote End Rule'.They didn't understand what it meant but when the match ended Both Brian Godfrey and Frankie Prince lost it with the Ref walking off the pitch claiming he'd blown up too early. For a little chap Frankie was as hard as nails-perhaps only second to Alex Munro.

Urgh I just watched the highlights of both play off games back. Forgot how blatant that Futcher headbutt was on Jock, made worse by the fact he then created their goal.

Absolutely beautiful but sadly not many people outside of North Staffs know what they are. You can buy them in the bread section at Sainsburys Emerson’s Green but I’ve never seen anyone ever give them a second glance apart from me!
