I know we scored seven ( yes 7 , seven , 7 seven …) goals today and it was a performance of attacking flair and creativity but my man of the match is Glen Whelan. After only playing a bit part all season and at his age to come in to the side and play as well as coutts has and to the standard as coutts has since Christmas was quite frankly incredible at his age and considering his match fitness wouldn’t have been to the level as the rest of our players I think he deserves a special mention.
When you’ve got men like him in the squad who won’t play every game but they have the professional mentality to stand up when called upon you know that in these kind of games that you’re in good hands.
Many said that we wouldn’t need the holding midfielder , that we should play an attacking player in Coutts place. I’m so glad Joey didn’t do that.
Glen Whelan you absolute legend.
Others will remember you for all of your Irish caps , all of those games playing at the top level but Im sure there are many Gasheads too will never forget the way you came in to the side today slotted in to a very gelled side and played an absolute blinder.
We couldn’t / wouldn’t have done it without you.
Up The Gas
We are Going up !

Harry Anderson won't probably feature on many peoples lists for MotM but what an outstanding work ethic.
Lost count of the times he burst past people forcing other Scunny players to cover and leave gaps for other Rovers players.
Got fouled time after time. A unsung hero but no doubt he played a massive part.
Also young Connelly deserves massive credit. So composed and patient. When lots of fans were suggesting he whoosh it forward he took his time to play to Elliott's feet. I hope we sign him. Unfortunately out of Evans and the loans, I think Connelly is probably the only one we have a decent chance of keeping.

What a player. Never troubled, a calming influence with a brilliant football brain. Did not put a foot wrong. Love him to stay with us what an example to young footballers. Hope we find a role for him.

No idea if it's true, but fingers crossed.

Absolutely, not taking anything away from an incredible performance today from everyone and since Christmas. But Glen came in today without the match fitness and played as well as coutts has lately and let’s face it he’s been immense lately and we all thought we’d really miss him.

The stats sum it up nicely, Whelan was superb. Hard to pick a MotM as all our players seemed totally on top of their game

Whelan has been a fine example to the younger players all season and again today.
Today he did everything we all wanted Coutts to do.
Whelan always does no more and no less than is required of him in any situation on the pitch, master class of how to play the game.

In hospitality after the game, the actual man of the match, LT said he was signing a 3 year contract. Couldn't make up my mind if he was joshing or not.

Whelan was supurb today and has been when coming off the bench, but Coutts did it at Vale and against much better teams than Scunny.

I said before the game Glenn has never let us down when called upon. Even better considering he hasn't played much. Nobody has a bad game today

The stats sum it up nicely, Whelan was superb. Hard to pick a MotM as all our players seemed totally on top of their game I’m Not surprised by those stats because he played the holding midfielder playmaker role absolutely perfectly today. Coutts probably has had those kind of stats week in week out since he recovered from covid. For Whelan to come in to the side today and keep that going shows fantastic mental strength , to keep himself switched on and fit and ready to be called upon after not really featuring much throughout the season for a league 2 side when he’s played most of his career at a higher level domestically and played against the best players in the world on the international stage shows fantastic professionalism at a time where our club , a club lower than he’s generally ever played for at the time we needed that most is fantastic.

I'd love Whelan back next year, will remind me of Kenny Hibbit who helped galvanise what would eventually be the Championship team of 1990, maybe Whelan could do the same next season

We need that kind of player next season. I think we’ll push on if we keep JB and the majority of our squad intact then there’s no reason I can think of why we won’t give the likes of Ipswich and Sunderland a run for their money pushing for a top six place. This team are fantastic but things can change I just hope it doesn’t change too much because momentum in sport is everything and we’ve got it in abundance.

Not surprised he keeps himself fit. Saw his family after the game and his missus is a stunner.
