The thing that i had forgotten is that young players are still growing and Connolly looked taller last evening as did Hoole. Maybe its because Connor isn't there to dwarf them.
if Holle has another couple of inches to grow then maybe he will become a centre half.

Encouraging that he isn't playing I would say, as a loan somewhere is more likely I’m even more confident he’s coming back to us - I know we’ve been working really hard to try and make it happen… 🤞 He was going to have his operation pre season so perhaps it’s that.

Enjoyed last nights game. Pretty much echoing what others have said really, both full backs were really good. Clarke was putting himself about, at times his composure on the ball let him down when he got forward, but that will come I think and improve that side of the game and he could be on for a great season. On the other side Gibbons showed why he was highly rated by Vale fans, his movement and cross for the first was very good and was something I saw from him on some of his Vale clips from last season. Like Clarke he defended well too. Luca had a very good game at centre half, comfortable on the ball, maybe not physical enough for that move to be permanent though? Marquis looked willing to put himself about. Rossiter made an impact in the midifeld, Saunders looked sharp and Anderson stood out as well (once he finally found his touch).

Ok, Westbrooke had a half decent game in a friendly. Thats a far cry from being worthy of a regular starter and he still looks lightweight for me. 2 seasons too late though id be looking to ship and recoup as much of his wages as possible. I remember Ed Upson being one of our best performers one pre season.... Very true, and that's the same Ed Upson that kept Westbrooke out of the Stevenage side for many games last season.
You can tell very little from pre season and history tells us, when the going gets tough, Westbrooke goes missing.

That performance if replicated when the season starts will see us safely establish ourselves in League 1. In addition to many good individual performances I was impressed how the back line worked to continually catch stoke offside, I lost count of how many times they did that.

Very impressive workout that, it was hard to tell who was the championship side. We looked solid, fit and hungry. Five or six quality additions as being spoke about by JB and I truly believe we'll be competitive in L1.

If there are no additions before FGR, what starting line up changes would expect to see from last night? Finley to start - instead of Westbrooke? Kilgour or Anderton at CB in place of Hoole?
Other than that, think it will be pretty much as yesterday. Saunders really pushing Collins and Anderson tho.

Best thing for me about last night (and there were lots of positives) was the performance of Luca Hoole at centre back. Would be happy with a Hoole and Connolly centre back pairing this season and we have already bought his replacement at right back.

I think a Hoole/Connolly combination for a whole season would be a major worry. Both good players in their own right but each need to be alongside a bigger, physical, commanding centre half like Taylor. Even though we did well last night that is my main area of concern going into the season with no new additions.

I was hoping to see if Mungo Bridge played any part last night - just out of curiosity as I had seen good things about him.
Seems strange to have been declined just on the Swansea game - maybe last night was too high profile and would show our interest.
That said was great to see Luca and Beefy do so well ....
