A programme that is well worth catching up with on i-player.
Listeners will learn more about Joe Barton and his philosophy than news about the team.
It is easy to understand how he can motivate and inspire players.
He comes across as a straight-talking gaffer but does not lack empathy.
There is clarity of mind and a clear appreciation of personal limitations.
If we don't do well this season it obviously won't be for want of trying.
The next 4/5 signings will determine the course of the season.
Will probably finish in the top 24 teams - with a sprinkling of magic dust and some luck.

Blimey, JB is an interviewers dream, you start him off and he just talks. He is a good listen and his passion and energy leaps out at you. Great talker and he answered the transfer question, he is working to bring some in. Interestingly he doesn’t seem too worried about not having the complete squad when we start. He’s really up for it and it was clear we aren’t there to make up the numbers. I thought he really wanted to say we would be knocking on the play-offs but realised he shouldn’t say it. But he feels it. Fingers crossed for a good start.

I like how you'd think a manager would be trying to answer and finish the interview as quickly as possible. But actually it sounded like Geoff was the one trying to wrap it up quicker and Joey could have carried on for hours haha

Could listen to Barton talk about the gas for hours on end. Such a good listen. The way he talks about us and our potential stirs many emotions. He really does seem to get us. Let’s hope he sees out that 4 year contract and gets us back to the championship before he moves on. Being an Evertonian, I think he does really get it. While Bristol hasn't got anywhere near the Footballing history of Liverpool, it's pretty similar in a lot of ways. 2 clubs, 1 Blue, 1 Red, Everton like us haven't finished above their neighbours for near on 20 years, haven't improved the ground for 26 years, are seen as the plucky underdog compared to their richer, more succesful neighbours. Everton like us desperately want to get back to being the top dog in the City or at least competing with them both on the pitch and off it. I genuinely think he'll stick it out.

Fantastic listen. I’m a season ticket holder but don’t really get buzzing till after the cricket season ends (about10-12 games in) and things start taking shape. A rare home game to kick off the season, and maybe a rare opening day win, I might be able too over lap the 2.
Joey knows something about a coming announcement?
Geoff should have pressed him a lot more. As said above, Joey don’t shut up, and I loves it.

Why does Geoff always call him Joe Barton, when everyone else calls him Joey?

Why does Geoff always call him Joe Barton, when everyone else calls him Joey? I think he prefers to be called Joe. I’m sure it says Joe Barton on the Manager’s door.

GT asked Barton early into his appointment did he want to be addressed and he said Joe. The press media seem to add thr Y..why I don't know pun intended

Why does Geoff always call him Joe Barton, when everyone else calls him Joey? In his autobiography he says he doesn’t like being called joey. He prefers joe or Joseph.

I remember that to call someone a "Joey" was taking the mick out of them. I am not sure if this is a bird reference, but I sincerely hope it was not used because of Joey Deacon, but I suspect it was.

I do thoroughly enjoy listening to JB. I get that he's marmite, but his enthusiasm is infectious.

I think in Liverpool and Manchester as well actually 'Joey's' are a big organised drug dealing network 🙂

What a great interview, inspiring stuff! Not since James belshaw’s revelations about bbq sauce and chicken pizza have I been more intrigued about Italian food. What toppings does a joey Barton have!? But seriously this guys intentions and passion are fantastic

Good listen as usual when JB is involved, apart from the Rovers stuff really good he talks up the city of Bristol and what it has and should have to offer, though living away from city at moment you do not here many Bristol 'politicians' bigging up the city do you? Also respectful to tother lot without being in anyway resentful, coming from a similar size city he, like many others, can't understand why Bristol has never cut it at the top of the football pyramid, think he is on a mission to get us there!
