Decent showing against one of the divisions bigger clubs and we matched up well, just like we did last Sat, maybe last Sat we were better. Key in recent weeks has been getting defenders back fit and forming partnerships, plus Belly’s performance last night 👏 Then there’s Coburn. What a find! “We’ve got the Teeside Haaland, Teeside Haaland, we’ve got the Teeside Haaland…” I hear Michael Carrick the new Boro manager was there last night, let’s hope he doesn’t decide to recall him In January. If he stays I’am sure we will do for him what we did for Elliot Anderson’s career last season.

I think Sky have been very complimentary throughout. The entire commentary and analysis seemed like Wednesdays own fans had run it, and 95% of the commentary was about Barry Bannan. I got fed up with the sound of his name by the end. It was like they thought it was an FA cup fixture. They’d decided up front that we were going to lose that game.

He's already scored goals at Championship level as a 17/18 year old. Our options up front with him, Collins, Lofty, Marquis to come back and Scott Sinclair now as well is arguably the best in the whole division.

Bannan bannan and bannan”

Some considered thoughts from the Owls Talk site.
" What disappointed me all game was us being second best at picking up the loose ball. I understand that they picked their game up to play teams like us but even so we should have closed it down more. And Joey Barton’s encouragement and passion from the sidelines was admirable. He’s got them fired up for sure ! Think we need a bit more of this. "
"You win games of football by hitting the target and hitting it where its hardest for the keeper to stop, not by having more shots at goal, weve had 39 attempts on goal in two matches, and hit the target 9 times, tonights oppostion got half there shots on target and stockdales had a very busy night."
"Fair result…unfortunately"
Kind of sums it up.

Moore talking sh**, we defended deep with everybody behind the ball. What a load of crap, not one word of credit to us. A man who heard the boos and knows he’s under pressure to get in that top 2 asap! Their forum is a fine split between giving us full credit & they were very unlucky not to have won it (but for Belly) Plenty of Owls fans not happy with their gaffer though. Yeah read their forum as well It does feel as though they believe they have a divine right to be in the top 2 positions at the end of the season. Such a shame we weren’t able to snatch that winner at the end because we really should have

Excellent performance overall in possibly the toughest away fixture of the season. Wednesday had more of the ball and more opportunities but I thought we had the clearer chances, a draw was probably the right result and anything less for us would have been a travesty given the players efforts. It was never a red card for them and at the other end I don’t think it was a penalty so the two big decisions were evened out. The ref let the game flow quite well and it was a great game for the neutral and a great advert for the third tier. Feeling confident going into the Derby game now - the physios need to earn their keep this week and get the players tired legs moving!

In my lifetime Wednesday have always been top flight or second tier, doesn’t give them any right to be there but I get why their fans always feel they should be.

Yeah you are right It was same for me when I started watching football in 67 Sheffield Wednesdays were always in the 1st Division and top dog over United. I liked them as they played in blue and even more so when we got Megson from them. Sure Wilf Smith, Colin Dobson and Gordon Fearnley played for them as well at some stage

Barton was dancing about, arms waving, ranting instructions. Moore stood inert, looking shell-shocked. Said it all. Whatever anyone might think of his private life, surely he has to be given great credit as a manager.

They are a big club, no question about it, compare them to the sleeping giant of BS3 and there is no direct comparison.
With the right manager they would be a definite force in either of the top 2 divisions.
With historically big crowds comes entitlement, with a history of success comes entitlement. Get a good manager (anyone know where they could get one?) and who knows.
More willing to accept their fans views than those of Muff who appear to forget they have spent the major part of their existence in the third division.
Back to the game, great result, rode our luck in patches but what a stellar performance by Belshaw

I think what grates is that we are a much “bigger” club than our attendances and facilities suggest. Our attendances and performance over recent years are linked to poor facilities over a series of decades. We’re not little old Bristol Rovers like Sky Sports seem to think at league one level. Both clubs are where they are.
It irks me that they describe Coburns goal as a big goal. What’s big about it? It didn’t take us out of the relegation zone. It didn’t secure us a promotion. It didn’t even get us a win.

Disagree with us having any big club mentality in the Conference or L2. Frustration we weren’t doing better than we were (when it was crap) but certainly no “we should be beating these, we’re massive” or any of that lark. Certainly not last season, it was one game at a time going fully into battle. Big difference between knowing you have quality and can hurt the opposition and thinking you just have to turn up for 3 points because you were in the Panini Premier League Sticker Book for most of the 90’s!

Any news on Ryan Loft's injury? Ah, nevermind just found it. Hamstring, taken off as a precaution

I know we have rose tinters on here but this from their forum is bordering on libel! Byers and McGuinness dragged us through that, everyone else was minging (with some sympathy for Smith and Gregory who worked hard but got nowt from us, or the ref). One of those nights, I thought Rovers were crap too but just pressed high and bullied us a bit - one of the few clogger teams in this league who physically can. They’ll do ok. Horrendous game of football though, as I suspect many of theirs will be.
