The average age of the combat soldier in Vietnam 19 19 19 19 We just lost to Accrington. They are relegation candidates who had 22 points prior to today's game. It happens, it's sport, but the performances over the past few months tells us we are not good enough. Not admitting it is delusional, and this is Barton's squad.

Tbh I wouldn't blame Jiey either. Time for wael to turn up and spend some time on the Golf course and work out what needs to be done. We have messed up so much these past few weeks but it ain't JBs fault entirely. The players need to take 75% of the blame Have we really “messed up so much these few weeks” ? Form over the last 8 games puts us 8th in that particular form table with a 50% win rate which is better than our season as a whole. Ok today was bad but prior to that we’d won four out of our last 6.

Thought Coburn was really poor, needs to beef up a bit, thought their centre backs had him in their pockets I have to agree seemed to go down at every challenge and struggled to get into the game. Looked lightweight and far from ready for the championship. We know that he is much better then today.

Didn't see the game so can't comment on it but this place really does do a terrific meltdown after a defeat. Yes we've played more games than most and we absolutely need to strengthen in defensive & midfield positions but we're 8th with 37 points. I'd have taken that after the way we started the season. If we were only told on Fri that Thomas had been recalled I'm not sure there's too much we could have done, the fact he'd probably been involved in the defensive pre game work wouldn't have helped either. Personally I think we'll fall short of the play offs but we already have the nucleus of a good league 1 side under contract for next season. It might not seem it reading some of this thread but it's not all doom & gloom

You don’t think 8th in the table having won and lost equal games is a decent start to the season after coming up from league 2 ? If you mean not good enough to win automatic promotion then I agree. If you mean making top 6 then it’s way to early to say.

Joey got two calls wrong this week. One we played a reserve side v Muff which could of Awarded us a big pay day to booster budget. Muff play cheltenham home for Wembley trip. Secondly: he released 3 defenders and didn't get at least one in. Last week we were thinking of Wembley and play offs . However : he's transfered the club and we are in the top half. Not many managers have achieved that in the last 20 years. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but playing Collins and Coburn to have a crack at plymouth and then start on the bench to watch Lofty and Marquis was a smart move. Lofty was useless coming on when we had to chase the game but would have been a handful for 60mins. Collins and Coburn come on if needed against a tired defence.

we miss rossitor without a doubt We also miss not having a decent replacement, I can't understand why we didn't replace Whelan with a young DCM when Rossiter has always been injury prone. The Anderson injury is an odd one as well, as one match he's fit them the next out injured again.

It might not seem it reading some of this thread but it's not all doom & gloom My take is completely opposite. Let's take the team that played today. Only beefy and maccormick are part of the nucleus that will be here next season (that werent our players last season). Would love Coburn to sign on a permanent contract but I don't think that is realistic. Collins is likely to leave over the summer, especially if he continues with his assists and goals. I think we do have the squad to go for at least the playoffs this season. Talk of bringing in 5 or 6 players in this window. It's still game on. Remember what the transfer window did for us last season.

Thomas leaving in such a manner could have caused a drop in morale for today's game. Certainly wouldn't have helped. I thought Hoole played well, but other than that was a depressing performance. Here's to some decent signings and remembering that our league position is still something to be very happy about. Thomas going on Friday like he did will have thrown all the matchday prep done in the week out of the window, like team shape and set pieces, which then results in McCormack having to come into an unfamiliar position. Watch the first goal back and he doesn’t cover around Hoole at the back post, that’s someone playing in a position they don’t really know and I think that’s a direct consequence of what happened with Thomas. Anyone who’s played the game at any level will know that conditions like today are a leveller and the game just becomes a battle, especially when the oppositions just want to lump it on you at every opportunity. I’d go so far as to say the conditions helped them and in the end a scrappy game like that ends up being settled with something scruffy. That’s how it panned out. People moan about the defence being rubbish, but they weren’t that bad today IMO, (I can only think of 2 dodgy instances in the first half where Connelly did his usual allowing a ball to sail over his head and gibbons scuffed clearance) other than that I don’t think that hoole, Connelly or Gibbons played that badly. I’m fact I’d even say that gibbons and Hoole were 2 of our best performers. The problem isn’t those players individually, it’s the changing of formations, the changing of defensive personnel, us needing some continuity in there, maybe even an experienced organising central centre half and dare I say has the loss of Kevin Bond made a difference too? Do we have too many players zonal marking at setpieces rather than man for man (I think we do). The 2 goals are scrappy, launching balls into the box is a lottery and they got lucky with the blatant handball (coupled with McCormack not covering around) and the second from a corner with bodies everywhere throwing themselves at the ball as it came in. At the other end nothing would fall for us, crosses in the box going to the keeper, look at the one Coburn missed from Collins cross - he’s been scoring them for fun, players not quite getting on the end of balls, through balls not coming off, headers and shots too tame. It just wasn’t working for us but I think we looked better second half when Loft came on. Collins made more of a difference when he went to the left. All in all a very scrappy game affected by the conditions that’s ended up being more of battle than a football match. The referee definitely had an effect on the game too, with the first goal and I think overall he was giving some very soft decisions and was inconsistent with stuff like advantages. Was that a red when Loft got pulled back second half and was that a pen on Saunders late on down in the corner?

So, you are saying, we are under performing? From the base of this time last year, you are disappointed ? More than that. When we were 17th in L2 in December last year we had started that season with a brand new squad. Reason to give Barton some slack (although his constant "running his mouth" made that harder). Then came E Anderson. But has Barton built on that? Coburn was a brilliant signing on loan but the recruitment for defensive positions has been shambolic, either poor players or the wrong players for the system Barton wants his team to play to. Midfield? Rossiter is ok when he is fit and god knows why McCormick is not performing well. But that is the manager's job, to get the best out of his players, not to slag them off in public (and then offer a player a new and extended contract and slag that player off almost immediately) Now a key loan player has walked out to join a team just few places above us. Why?

Was Thomas really a ‘key’ player? Other than being the only fully fit CB we have for me that’s the only reason he was starting so often. If Gibson hadn’t picked up a knock he would’ve been the middle of a back 3 pick, without question. JB’s rolls Royce. Thomas whilst decent enough in the air, often left wanting when football was played around him on the deck.
Fully up for seeing him terrorised by Collins & Coburn when he returns to the Mem😎

Two decent additions in before Wycombe & he’ll be swiftly forgotten🤘🏼
