Regular posters on here? 30? Of which 7,8 don't like him? I'll take my chances. I've got your back, Baggs. Cheers Honey.

A defensive coach has to be a priority and not someone from a development background.

Gibson on a permanent would be my first choice. Ward contract extended along with Anderson. We'll need a fair amount in to replace the loans and probably Collins so ideally I'd like to see less in the way of young loanees although I completely understand that finances may dictate we can't go and fill the squad with experienced league 1 / lower end championship signings. Away from the squad if it's feasible reinstate the development squad or at the very least give them some regular competitive matches. Players like Jones, Greenslade, Egan & Lawrence have definitely suffered with a lack of games.

Defence!!
New left back, left wing back, and probably 2 or 3 central defenders, one of whom must be an experienced tough nut
Need to hope Finley and Rossiter are injury free as they are more than good enough at this level
Personally I’d loan out Loft and get in another striker, although we may be looking at a completely new front line if Collins and Coburn are not here?
Would I want Coburn back? Possibly, but he has looked spent after Xmas.

Why did Rovers do away with the reserve team?

Assuming all loanees return, I'd also try and move on (not knowing contract situation)
MacDonald J Grant Gordon Coutts Rodman
I'd also loan out
Loft
I'd tie up
Anderson - good to have a utility player like him in the squad and is underrated
We do need an out and out number 9 signed next season. Also the amount of loanees means a high squad turnover and almost any knowledge of the team playing together is lost, so should try and limit this

Weve paid whilst hes had surgery and recovery, lets try and get something for that. Would be a great player for us if he can prove fitness. Also Wouldnt mind Gordon staying as back up left back. He has potential.

Why did Rovers do away with the reserve team? Many years ago Reserves had their own league-Football Combination- and in the North and Midlands it was the Central League. We used to attract teams like Spurs Reserves(Scottish International Jimmy Robertson made his Spurs debut at Eastville). Terry Oldfield always seemed to play for the reserves. Port Vale would play teams like Liverpool and Man City.Crowds at Eastville varied according to the opposition.Assume finance was the reason for their demise.

Its possible Coutts may leave in the summer and Bogarde will return to villa. Will Grant get a new contract ? So 2 central midfielders for sure are needed. Collins and Coburn will be gone so at least 1 new striker. Quansah and Gibson could both be gone so 2 maybe 3 centrebacks. Balcombe will be gone so 1 keeper.
Thats the real basics just to tread water then there are players to replace released players and improve competition.
So maybe 10 signings.

Think we need the coaching team to determine what formation and tactics we are playing next season then determine what we need where.
Very unlikely it will be 4-4-2. Will it be 3-5-2 or 4-2-3-1 hope not 4-3-3 (oops) as seems we are no good at that.
Then a list of those under contract for next season.

The Combination League was a great learning experience for young players, the opportunity to play against some seasoned professionals who, for one reason or another were not in the first team (often coming back from injury, I think), and measure themself against youngsters from the top flight teams. Saw some big names when the games were played at Yate in later years.

Of course, back in the day there were no substitutes.
As such only 11 players were used on match days so the reserves were full of many experienced players.
Remember going to Eastville every other week to see the reserves play against some top players.
Sure it was only 1/3 for youngsters then? (ie 6p!)

A certain degree of consistency in tactics and formation would be welcome. I had no serious concerns with belshaw but once the furore with balcome had died down I think the new guy had done enough to be the starter and that would be goalie lineup next year. Connor Taylor to bring stability to the back line and joy for us all, the constant changing of defensive systems has destroyed Connolly and Flash Gordon I think, I’m happy to keep them both I think they both have very high ceiling’s. It seems to me that for the Ipswich home game we shifted to a far more pragmatic defensive set up in order to protect the peppered new goalie and then we have been unable to then create coherent attacking phases. We need a leader in midfield, and some creativity. Can rossiter play full seasons? Is Anthony evans decline irretrievable? I think McCormick should just be given a run of games. With some massive teams still to visit the mem this season there is so much to be excited about and experiment with, if these are to be Aaron Collins last few games in the quarters then I hope we can celebrate them. Loft was in super form right up to injury on the telly against Wednesday so he should play every minute now to see if he can get that form back

Lots to do but also some good players under contract. Hope we give some of our youngsters a chance, otherwise what is the point?

It settles any goalkeeping arguments by simply not having one.

Before we start offering new contracts we need to see if he has now fully recovered from his injury issues.
