European Champions Continental Champions (beating Brazil in the Finallisima) World Cup Finalists
Regardless of the result Sunday, Serena deserves an honorary something from Charlie for services to English sport. Incredible achievements, one step away from best side on the planet and probably one of the best squads of all time.

Of course it is, it's getting constantly shoved down our throats 🫣 Speaks the person who doesn’t watch it but comments on this thread constantly 🙄 How do you know that? Do you monitor my watching habits? That's a bit creepy to be honest. Actually I have watched some of the highlights, as I believe that you should never comment on something you haven't at least attempted to watch, also it is supposedly improving so I generally take a look at the World cup and Euros to see if it is actually watchable yet. And I don't constantly comment, let's face it nobody does really do they, 11 pages for an entire tournament. I have been interested in the level of engagement in my experience (i.e. my neighbours/friends and around town generally) compared to how it's been reported in the media, obviously I can only speak to the area I live in and the town I work in, about 15 miles away. I live in Teesside, a pretty football mad area, on the edge of the North East, and to be honest you wouldn't know it's on (compared to wall to wall St George's crosses everywhere during the men's world cup/euros, not a pretty sight for a Welshie I can tell you) it struck me on the way home this evening, there was a car with a St George cross flying and I realised it was the first one I'd seen, and then I noticed as I was making my way through town, nothing, not even in the pubs. I don't mean people are anti it or anything, and most of my friends want England to win, in the same way that they wanted the netball team to win a couple of weeks ago (which I did watch), but with no real engagement, knew it was on, wanted their country to win but no desire to watch any of it. Please believe me when I say it's not the fact that it's on or that women play football or the people watch it, it's the way it is reported, and yes, shoved down our throats by media that have an agenda that p*sses people off.

Please believe me when I say it's not the fact that it's on or that women play football or the people watch it, it's the way it is reported, and yes, shoved down our throats by media that have a PERCEIVED agenda that p*sses SOME people off. Edited for accuracy. It's a good news story, and my goodness we need some of that at the moment. I was in the park the other day and overheard two boys playing football. One said to the other, "you defend this free kick, pretend you are a girl which means I'm going to score easily". Some may think that's true, other merely funny. For me it shows there is still a lot of misogyny out there, even amongst some children who I would have hoped would move on. As a father of a daughter, that's worrying, not whether media coverage is OTT. Anyway, back to the football. Nice to see us beat the Aussies at last after the netball and both mens and womens Ashes. Good luck in the final.

Obvs I don’t know if you watch it ! 🙄 Just I think it’s a bit weird you’re slagging off women’s football and the standard of it but you then watch it ? Or maybe you don’t … who knows ? England have just reached the World Cup final and you’re complaining that’s it’s being shoved down your throat . That comment is just ridiculous and hilarious. If the men had reached the final we would be getting probably 20 times the coverage ( at least!) Wall to wall tv , newspapers, radio etc discussing every minute detail.

Without wanting to get into old ground and going over and over again on the same arguments, I do believe your bias against women’s football (either conscious or unconscious) influences what you see and I think people see what they want to see… I say this because I have family who live in Newcastle and I have spoken to them a fair bit obviously whilst the World Cup has been on and the support in the street, in the pubs around the city etc is no different to how it is down here with flags, games being shown, people going to watch etc…. I will grant you that I don’t believe it is as strong as we see when the country gets behind the Men’s team for tournaments or England in the Rugby World Cup but it is still strong. I’ve watched many of the games and the quality on show has been good and the excitement of matches high… Kerr’s goal yesterday was an outstanding finish…. I hope our success in the women’s game goes on to help grow women’s football further and inspires a generation and more of girls, women and boys and men to play and watch football…. All of this can only be good in my opinion. The women’s ‘product’ and men’s ‘product’ are at different stages and we shouldn’t compare. They are both good, both entertaining and can coexist - it doesn’t need to be one or the other and if either is having a period of success, why shouldn’t this be celebrated and promoted? And why can’t the women’s game be given heightened coverage to help its growth? In many instances the men’s game has become unaffordable for the average business to sponsor or invest in therefore why not look to the growing women’s game to help achieve mutual aims?

A few things I want to add:
1) The timings of the games - Its early morning, rather than prime time evening. I was in the Southern Hemisphere for the Japan/Korea world cup, so I don't know what it was like here at the time. It is certainly being discussed in our office when there are games.
2) The quality of the footballing has been really good. Sam Kerr leading the line yesterday was no different to a Premiership player leading the line. Fortunately/Unfortunately her finishing was more Marquis than Man City!
3) The skill levels I am seeing from the better teams are better quality of ball control than what we see week in and week out in the 3rd division.
4) The comment about womens Wimbledon is very pertinant. The quality of the serve and volley is just as good in the womens game as the mens, its just played at a different pace.

Add in that our Lionesses have sold out Wembley, plus neutral club grounds umpteen times since Weigman took over, far from being zero interest & ‘shoved down our throats’
