Toppergas, It,s a personal viewpoint based on how I saw the game. You saw it differently-Fine. As regards Lockyer I am hardly going to say he was outstanding and passed the ball well when his performance was there for all to see and he certainly did not and has rarely passed the ball well. Anyway as I said he was solid and defended well, hardly constant criticism. Just my opinion that when we are playing at home to a basically very poor side then Leadbitter for me offers more and passes the ball and works better with Dawson. You could also comment on my marking of Dawson as many say he played very poorly but it is my opinion that nobody can play well if they don't get the service. In fact anybody who plays right wing are going to struggle if they don't get a good service. We will have to disagree but IMO we played poorly for long periods of the game against very modest opponents and we will have to improve if we are to beat the likes of Forest Green or Eastleigh like in all honesty we should do with the players at DC's disposal. As per spiess1 do you honestly think that Puddy gave a 9 out of 10 performance? That would be a mark given to a goalkeeper who had played an absolute blinder rather than a game in which he could have brought a chair out for the majority of the game. We hardly played poorly just not the style we played against Chester & Kiddy, however, neither of those two had anything to play for unlike Southport who are still in a relegation scrap so didn't just give up at 2-0.

Spiess1, I think a mark of 6 reflects pretty well Puddys performances in goal for us. He has not had to produce an array of saves in any of the games. His best game was away at Macclesfield where I believed I marked him 7 but recently (the three games you mention) he has not had to excel. Saturday he had very little to do and kidderminster and Chester were similar. The 6 really reflects his handling which has been good therefore reflected in a 6 rather than an average performance which is a 5. To be honest I will be quite happy if I give him 6 till the season is over because it will mean he hasnt let many goals in and he hasnt been called upon to make worldly saves which would probably mean we had not played very well!!!

If Barnet win both, then credit to them, they deserve the league. If we win both and snatch it, then we deserve it. Simple as. We can only do our part, and hope. With a home gate of 2150 yesterday pathetic they deserve to stay in this league

On that basis we would be a League 1 side as most sides in League 1 & 2 get less than us but it don't work that way and it is even more creditable that a team like Barnet on their gates are ahead of us.

Thank you Steve, great write up and assessment, fantastic reading as always. I agree with all you said and I think kiddie will do us a favour, their chairman and 2 board members resigned before Saturdays match, so maybe they will be playing to impress the incoming board, lets hope so hey.

Thanks as usual for your tremendous efforts with this, Steve. Has been a great read throughout the whole season. Fair play to you also for dealing well with the critical comments, which in my opinion, as they are 99% of the time constructive, also add to the picture for us exiled Gasheads. When you pour your heart and soul into something like you have done, I know it's not easy to face these criticisms, so responding to them in such a level headed and fair mannered way does you great credit.

Thankyou 2nd May 1990 Appreciated. I actually do enjoy the criticism as most of the ones who do it will back their criticism up with valid points. The joy of football is that if you have a small group of people even then none of them are going to agree over everything.Football is that sort of game which is what makes it so enjoyable as different people look to different things. A good example of this is that some will want purely the right result at any cost whilst others want to see good games of football. It is true to say that results are the thing which will bring the punters back whilst a team playing good football with an average record will not. My opinion of this group of players is that they are capable of playing better football but to include the players needed for that would maybe not suit the way we play from the back. Might not agree with DC's methods sometimes but certainly cannot complain about the results. 1 loss in something like thirty games is remarkable.
