None of the top scorers in levels 1-4 have scored more than 25 (edit: league goals) this season. Where are these insane standards we're holding Taylor to coming from?! But Steves and T Bones point about "should be 40" is we are not in levels 1-4 and if Akinde and Parkin can score 30 then it should be possible playing for one of the top sides at this level No one in conference north or south has scored 30 league goals either. 40 goals a season is an exceptional tally at any level yet for Taylor that's his pass mark? Absurd.

Yes, it's completely ridiculous. We call Barnet and Forest Green one man teams, yet Akinde and Parkin got marginally less than a third of their goals this season. So if Taylor should have got 40 then already by comparison we would have needed to have scored at least 120 league goals. Also factor in the fact that we are supposedly less reliant on Taylor then that figure would rise even further! I think given what he offers to the team, 18 was a good return, maybe 4 or 5 short of what he could have had. It's completely unreasonable to expect a striker to knock in even a third of his chances yet every chance Taylor has missed seems to be remembered and held against him.

As I said his goal return is a FINE return. I honestly feel that he could have been the top goalscorer in this League if he was a real clinical finisher. last nights goal was a clinical finish but he probably missed two better chances to score. I DO feel he is good enough to play at the next level up if we succeed in going up.

It seems he sometimes thinks too hard about what he is going to do. When he has to react quickly he seems to do well.

I think we all agree he has done extremely well, but could and perhaps should have scored a few more, particularly early doors. This is all true, but I think it's also fair to say the guy's still learning his trade. What are his season by season stats: 2011/12 29 apps 10 goals 2012/13 43 apps 9 goals 2013/14 32 apps 9 goals 2014/15 49 apps 20 goals This is comfortably his best scoring season, plus remember he had a genuinely awful start in terms of scoring stats. Admittedly he's probably had more chances in a more successful team too, but many strikers don't properly hit their straps until Matty's age or older. He has a striker's instinct, which you can't teach. The positional stuff, shooting technique and the composure for one-on-ones is possible to improve with practice, experience and good coaching, so if he can stay injury free I think he has a good future ahead of him.
