Sorry, maybe I was too vague.
In the past the BOD have made up the shortfall.
Yes, we have overspent many times but it was covered by the Board.
What is different this year is that they are not doing that.
What we are seeing is a manager having to work within a more realistic budget.
Now, we could argue until the cows come home about whether this BOD are or have ever made the best of what income we do have but that's a whole new thread.

I think we should budget to break even and if that means a smaller squad so be it. We have huge debt from mismanaging our budget that cant increase indefinately.

I'm only impatient because I like knowing who are players are and seeing signing announcements. In reality it's fine if it takes 2 more weeks to bring in the players.

What's you suggestion then oldie? How would you play it? The wage cap allowed us around £2m last season and that must probably be halved over the next 2 seasons.a feckin great lump of the coming seasons wage bill will be taken up by the contracted players from last year so there's not gonna be a lot left for the newbie signings.its a sh** situation caused by the powers that be living beyond our means and chasing after their losses year on year.basically we are *ed financially and will have to budget for 4-5k home attendances and attempt to finally get our house in some sort of order. If not we will be liquidised within 2-3 years in my view.

We've never had the money. We've always spent what we don't have. The only times we've temporarily balanced the books is by selling a player or having a long cup run. Which is exactly why we are in the s*** we are in For gods sake, it aint that hard, unless you believe in the tooth fairy
Yet many thought we should be challenging for the championship a few years back, which in effect started the downfall with the sacking of Lennie and the spunking of funds on Blizzard and Hughes.

I still don't see how our break even attendance is 9500 if teams like Fleetwood and Crawley can compete at a much higher level. Where is all this money going? Players wages? Upkeep for the Mem? We should have twice the budget these do.

This is the issue. And what annoys me is that some people seem to still reckon we aren't given the funds we should be by the board. But they have always made money available, the manager has just blown it. Lack of scouting network is an issue and the board can be blamed for that, but in my opinion, not for showing lack of ambition with funds.

That is a fair point but I think you can rest assured that the budget for the season has been reduced EACH year and particularly this year when if you look at the players gone out and those coming in then I am sure there will be no comparison whatsoever with last season and this. I know we have been relegated twice but IMO they should make a real effort to get straight back up this time but no doubt we have a Manager on the cheap and most of the players as well. Coming out with we will have ONE of the biggest budgets in this league is really not good enough when you consider the teams in there.

To be fair Forest Green really throw some money about, and they have as of yet had no success. They always have, on paper, a decent team ... never even make the play offs.

And where exactly has having one of the biggest budgets in League 2 taken us? Down. It's all well and good having a big budget but unless it's spent properly we will have more misery. www.bristolpost.co.uk/Cloud-cuckoo-land-wage-demands-hamper-Bristol/story-21449377-detail/story.html

I think you'll find that DC is being diplomatic here with regard to a goalkeeper. If you speak to him he will tell you that he wants 4 outfield players. He doesn't want to use up his budget on a keeper when you can sign them at any stage. He just wants a half decent one in reserve/youth team for emergencies. Its no guide to the future, but Mildenhall has always had a good track record on injuries. I would agree, at this level our U18s keeper will suffice for backup on match days, he was youth team player of the year after all! If Mildy gets injured then we simply loan someone to cover his absence. Paying for someone to sit on the bench for me is not worth it and an outfield player would be a far better option. There seems to be a consensus that goalkeepers have to be old & experienced.... The team I follow here in Australia signed a new first team goalkeeper for the 2010 season. He got injured, and was ruled out for the season. Instead of going out and buying a new keeper we put our 18 year old reserve keeper in. He played for us until last season, when he transferred to Club Brugge. He became goalkeeper of the year in Belgium and is now the Australian goalkeeper.
