Fellow Gasheads,
Talk to me about the moment you were hooked.
Mine was Bristol Rovers Vs City in the coca cola cup. 90's sometime. I was young less than 10- I can't completely remember. I'd been before but was possibly too young to understand.
Anyway rovers scored. Barry Hayles had got the ball over or near the line and a goal was given. i was lifted off the ground whilst fans celebrated and laughed at the city defence that didn't think the ball crossed.
Unfortunately we lost. But it was Hayles' goal against city that got me hooked on Gas.

When we lost at Wembley in the JPT for some reason! Before then I was a fair weather supporter and not too bothered about results.

Southampton away at the Dell when Kevin Keegan played for the Saints.
I had moved into the area and watched both City and Rovers for a period of time . City were in the old first division ( the premiership as is) and I really couldn't stand the negative atmosphere that went on at City.
Rovers were in a league below and on a long losing streak . I travelled away to this FA Cup tie with a gas nutter and we lost 4-1 with a really young side including Gary Mabbut at centre half. As the team went off at the end of the match they were given a standing ovation with the chant " we are proud of you" and at that moment I knew that it was Rovers for me.
It was the fans who swung it .

I didn't have a choice the first sentence I could say was "come on you blues" and my family said they would disown me if I didn't follow the Rovers and put me down if I followed the sheet. I guess I was born a Gashead. I started to go along as a nipper to Twerton with my father, uncles and cousins just after we moved out of Eastville which I loved. The humour, community and resourcefulness of those times is something we should try to modernize and make relevant today. If someone asked me to describe myself being a Rovers fan has always been part of this and will be until the day I die.

My first trip to Twerton as a 6 year old. Id been to wembley and Fratton park as a neutral but watching BRISTOL Rovers was something else. I immediately felt like I belonged and was completely hooked. All this talk of us trying to emulate the 82 ers is way off the mark for me.

Versus Bury in 1996, i think?, when Beadle scored a hat trick and we won 4 - 3. Was a flood lit match on a Weds evening so was hooked by that special atmosphere.

Ground Breaking thread returns on 1st September. In the meantime, memories. All happy ones.
My first game was probably this one. My Dad now 88 took me to see rovers against Southampton at Eastville. Paul Randell scored two and we won 2-0 I think. Bobby Campbell was manager in those days.
Beating Stoke 4-1 in the 98/99 season. New Stoke stadium – my first game for my 5 year old lad - he has been hooked ever since.
Maybe this was my first game. I remember beating Chelsea 2-1 at Eastville. They had just been relegated from the 1st division. Chelsea had Ray Wilkins in the side on the day.
Time for me to look forward. Its what I do!

Think it was 2002 away at Derby in FA cup the Duke hat-trick hooked ever since what a performance. If remember rightly think we finished 23rd that season with only one team going down, away record saved us that year.

Lincoln at home '87/'88 season, 2-0 down with 20 mins to go, Devon White pops up with a brace of goals to claim a point and Twerton is rocking so hard it feels like the stand could fall down! 9 year old me goes home very happy after his first visit to a Gas game.

Rovers vs Port Vale 1988 at Twerton in the League Loved it. Bought a season ticket for the 89-90 season. The first game I saw us lose was the Leyland Daf Cup final to Tranmere at Wembley in 1990. Not all seasons have been so good since.

Went to Eastville to watch the gas vs Oxford in 83 with my bro for the first time, went to quite a few games after that with my mate from school, can't remember the games so much but how good it felt to be in the tote end. Never done twerton but when we came back started going again, bought a season ticket ever since and haven't missed many home games since our return. Love it, can't get enough of it and wouldn't want to do anything else on a Saturday afternoon. UTG

Rovers 2006/07 was the first time I remember taking an interest, must have been about 12.
First game that actually got me hooked was Swindon a year or two after though. Chris Lines last minute equaliser, the place went nuts.

As a boy living in deepest south bristol it would have been so much easier for me to support the local team like all of my mates, However Rovers v Oxford United at home 1967 as soon as I walked into the Eastville stadium I knew it was where I always wanted to be.

Strangely enough it was before I saw a game. My dad and brother came back from a game soaking from the rain. I wanted to be part of something that elicited a willingness to put up with all weathers. After my first match at Eastville (a Milk Cup match though I forget against who) I became addicted to the hot dogs, to such a degree that I often missed goals queuing up!!
Due to personal family commitments I fell away over the past couple of seasons but when we were relegated to the Conference I rekindled my love for the club. It seemed to remind me what I great second family I belonged to.

My next door neighbours, father and son, realised they had missed my 6th birthday, so to make up for it took me to Eastville to watch Tranmere in the 73/74 season. I remenber being sat on the perimeter boards with my legs dangling over the edge and a steward telling me to get back, as if I was likely to start a pitch invasion. However a one nil win, and the tremendous noise when we scored, was enough to get me hooked, so much so that when I returned home I demanded a blue and white quartered shirt much to the chagrin of my City loving dad!
