He has gone back to Westley who managed him at Kettering , Stevenage and Preston. He knew how to get the best out of him and obviously rated him or he wouldnt have kept resigning him

could not fault his work rate, just the way Ward played him The most bizarre and terrible signing since Lee Mathews. Playing a striker who cant and has barely ever scored in a ten year career summed up Wards season. I think the day i heard we had brought him was the day i first realised we were in big trouble

Ward messed up big time not getting a striker in pre season, but by the time he realised there wasn't many options available.

He would probably be a useful player in a system that holds the ball better. He works the defence very hard. He was never going to score the goals that we required though and we basically flogged him to death. A complete mismatch. The only type of players we needed for our soak up and spring method were sprinters that could out pace lg 2 CBs. In Harrold, Beardsley, Clarkson, even Brunt to a degree...Our style doesn't suit them because they are not suited to running around like headless chickens chasing hopeful punts. I maintain, they are all decent players in their own right but unfortunately, we fail to accommodate them. I could probably count on both hands the number of crosses I seen come in from the goal line last season-bearing in mind the strikers we had-that is what they need. Not Parkesy or Macca long lumps to nobody in particular.
Our best strikers have been those that could self create and thinking about it, that actually hid the problems all along. When did we last stroke the ball around and play anything resembling attractive football? Probably need to think back to Trumpton.

NH: A very impressive CV for a prospective manager, certainly. I just have one question... Prospective Manager: Thank you, please go ahead... NH: Ummmmm, will there be any crosses because we don't really agree with crosses? Prospective Manager: Well, there might be some crosses... NH: Some? Prospective Manager: Well, maybe just a few? NH: A few eh? Prospective Manager: Well, none? NH: None! Yes, excellent! Very good. The job is yours, feel free to make your own plans at christmas time.
