As i have said before i have some contacts at the Everton academy which is where i got my Hallum Hope tip off from last season.
I have asked about our new right back who came through the Everton academy too and although he was clearly not premier league quality i have been told he would be a very good defender for this level with the potential for league 2 or league 1.
He was a very well thought of boy with a fantastic attitude. As the internet reports he played for Birmingham for free to try and get his career off the ground but it didnt work out. Im glad he has been given an extended trial and hope it works out for him. Everton have a fantastic youth system and have loaned players to conference sides over the past few years. Definitely worth a call from DC.

I was impressed with him yesterday, he looked good... since he was kept on and performed well yesterday I'd be surprised if he wasn't offered a deal to be honest.

He looked a good technical footballer Dins. Was mostly impressed with his crossing, first half particularly he sent in some good crosses that would have been threatening with a more aerial presence. He did get caught out of position twice but I couldn't be sure if that was due to him being a RWB or just poor positioning. I think he'll sign should Smith leave.

I see him as being more of a defensive full back then Smith but also a lot more raw. He will be alongside some quite experienced defenders which should help. See him as a full back more then a wing back so may depend what way DC wants to go.

He sounds like a good prospect, and surely Smith is going to go within the next few weeks? If the lad looks good on Saturday, I hope we don't dilly dally, and then somebody else picks him up.

To be fair - Smithy looked raw when he first joined us and I do remember a certain Marcus Stewart taking a year to find his feet before he grew into a good footballer.

Another good game for Ryan Higgins against Yeovil. With Smithy on his way out it looks like he is being lined up as his replacement.

If he is a defensive full back then bloody well good. Get back to defenders defending and wingers in front of them attacking.3-5-2 is too easily drawn all over the place by opponents as was shown against Mansfield last game and also away at Wimbledon. It really is a formation which covers up the fact you have no decent wingers.

I haven't been to any off the pre-season games but this lads name keeps cropping up as being a consistently solid performer. Hopefully we can get him signed up sooner rather than later with Smudgers imminent departure.

Looks a decent player to me who can get forward and back reasonably quick, in fact compared to Lee Brown he is like Usain Bolt! The three at the back was fine in the first half last night but as soon Johnson got his team in the dressing room at halftime they came out and instead of a steady type of build up from the back, they counter attacked at speed and our back three were somewhat isolated with Brown especially flondering to get back. Have to say young Lockyer looked very assured in the right centreback role unlike his unassured right back performances at the end of last season. Definately his best position for me. We definately need two fast pacey wingers as our Manager has said are his prioroties For me, on last nights performances Higgins and Thompson worth contracts, the latter a far better player than the likes of Brunt and Harrold.

Bideford. Agree most of your points. The only area I disagree is that I don't think Higgins has the pace to get up and down like Smudger
But Higgins is certainly no mug, and at our level should be ok. However, I think DC may have someone else in mind should Smudger go.

Quite happy to hold the ball and appears not to panic. I would be quite happy to see him sign
