a few of our younger players who were blooded last year have come in for some flack over the close season with their shortcomings being criticised . The reality was that they lacked a mature figure guiding them in the way that say Stuart Campbell used to and hopefully the new more experienced signings such as Mansell will enable them to develop more and live up to their early potential.
Sinclair seems to relish the fact that he has become a full time footballer and hopefully his attitude of feeling priviliged to be paid for doing something he loves to do will rub off on the youngsters and make them work harder at their game.
I remember a certain Michael Smith looking out of his depth when he first started playing for us and even Marcus Stewart failed to impress in his first season.
So lets hope that the youngsters do step up to the mark and live up to early potential

Great points, with a year of first team football and a couple of wise heads the yougsters could really develop into class players this year.

So lets hope that the youngsters do step up to the mark and live up to early potential Good post. At the end of the day, younger players ideally need to be introduced into a settled side with little to zero pressure. Our situation last season was one where a mistake by any player that led to a goal meant that we would lose the game or we had a miniscule chance of getting back on level terms or winning.(Did we come from behind to win at all last year?) We did not have a settled team last year with injuries and suspensions to key personnel, while we certainly did not have a comfortable patch at any stage of the season where the pressure was off. We did not have a single player on the field who could go up to Lockyer/Clarke/Harrisson/Santos, put there arm round them and say something supportive. That is a problem. Lockyer got bone crunched by Pipe away at Newport and I did not see a retaliation from any of our team-that is not on. Poor kid was on his own and probably wondering when he would get another. I am a little refreshed that Mansell is vocal but Torquay forum suggest he is vocal but not much else. Our youngsters can only have learned from last year but I think that stepping down in standard is not going to benefit them but be more of a leveller.
