Not really any shocks today. All set for tomorrow then...... Salford took the headlines last night, Alty will tonight (very hard place to go to, kudos for beating Barnsley), which means one more tomorrow night... In all seriousness, if we apply ourselves I think we'll be okay. Reckon Maidstone will end Paul Sturrock's 'reign' at Yeovil.

Not an FA Cup shock but not worth its own thread. Bloody Bolton missed a pen.

Surely Eastleigh winning at Crewe is a "shock" given one's a National side the other Div 1? Although them & FGR both winning away from home at league opposition confirms just how strong the National league is becoming.

Team was Nicholls (Ron). Bamford Alcock Pitt Hale Sampson Petherbridge Biggs Bradford Meyer Hooper. Goals from Biggs 2 Meyer and Bradford.Attendance of 35000 plus. What we would give for an attendance like that and a strike force like that as well We'd need something bigger than the UWE. Biggest Rovers crowd I have ever been in was in the League Cup v Stoke in the 60s. Lost 4-2 but I think there were just over 34000 there. Yes was there but think it was 71 or 72 both years we had runs in league cup to quarters and 5th round. Lost to Villa in quarter final and then to Stoke next season. As you say Eastville was rocking at those night matches in front of 30,000+.

Remember Gordan Banks having a blinder for Stoke, drawing with Villa and going to the replay losing at the death,Carl Gilbert had our best chance. Beating Norwich and Birmingham at Eastville think they went to extra time but can't remember drawing away so maybe not

Remember beating Norwich. I wasn't there as I was in hospital having surgery but listened on hospital radio.

Mind you since those runs in the league cup not sure if we've even won 1 match because our record now is awful. Them were the days. That quarter final home match against the Villa when we both div 3. It poured and poured, they got an early goal and we battered them for rest of match to get equaliser in last 10 minutes only to lose replay in last minute. What I would give for those days now!!

FA Cup 3rd round tie at Eastville 1985/6. Rovers were in the 3rd division at the time and beat 1st division Leicester City 3-1. I was bouncing in the tote. I diddnt stand in the Tote that often but I did that day, think I was about 13

Half an hour for me.Seen us win a few times there and the Supporter's Club notes(pre forum) described the chippy opp' the ground 'As the best in the league'. My first ever match as a FL Linesman was there when Torquay beat them 1-0.Also when Paul Miller scored there to take us to the Wembley play off final,Radio Stoke said,'Rovers fans leaving the ground sounding their horns as they return to Eastville' even though we played at Twerton.

There are always upsets in the FA Cup and this year is no different to any other.

Now you mention the rain, I also remember it like I was back there. Soaking wet in the North Stand, fantastic atmosphere, Eastville was magic then with a huge crowd. I'm not sure it was quite as big as others say but certainly 28,000. Wasn't Willie Anderson, the George Best of Birmingham, their star winger, then? I remember running onto the pitch after one of those games - either Stoke or Villa (OK OK I was just a kid) and some kn*bhead Rovers fan stole my blue and white bobble hat and scarf. If you're reading this, kn*bbie, I want them back.

I saw us lose to Kettering 2-1 up there a few years ago. I was also at VS Rugby when we went 1-0 down. Only about 10 minutes to play I think. We scored not long after they did and won the repay easily. I was at PNE for the FA cup tie. We hadn't won all season. Went 4-0 up at half time. watered down with rain and we thought the game would be called off. Hung on for a 4-3 win. No wonder I've got high blood pressure. Are you sure it was Preston,i recall the same thing but I thought it was Burnley, but the grey cells are getting old Yeah mine too, that's why I looked it up before I posted. 3rd January 1981. Terry Cooper was manager.

I remember that happening but was a bit too young to realise how bad it was. I recall my Mum telling me the result after she heard it on radio bristol.

If you're reading this, kn*bbie, I want them back. Was a Tuesday night and I was on the Tote and got soaked. But as you say remembering it now is almost like being there. Pretty sure our equaliser was at the Tote end but may be wrong. Some fans might never have seen Rovers win a League Cup match. Slight exaggeration I know but we have been awful in that competition since then, must be in the last few if you were to order all league teams in this comp.
