Surely if you don't show colours though and say your not going to the footie they can't do much? technically no, but any youngish male will be treated as a football fan and given grief. brilliant blog here, reproduced in 'Away The gas', and including the photo of Stewart Lee looking like a hobo, being ganglead by Eric Cantona. gomadorstopcaring.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/away-day-diary-oxford-united-0-2.html

So they have a number of tests they can deploy to root out those who don't belong in Oxford. Usually they go for early twentieth century English authors. Suggest you brush up on your Lawrence (not Liam). Beware of simultaneous equations, and Molecular Mass , too. (The atomic mass of Hydrogen is 1.00794 - that should get you past a couple of cordons.)

Most forces had a "football intelligence" team who travelled with the fans to away games, met one from Greater Manchester force in Horfield barracks years ago, he was having lunch with their uniformed mob. Tried to convince me he was off duty and had come to watch the game, not impressed with my outbreak of laughter. Can individual forces afford them these days?

Surely if you don't show colours though and say your not going to the footie they can't do much? what your saying is correct but it ain't that simple I remember the FA Cup game at Barnsley when I then lived in Northampton.
On the return, we got to Sheffield and the local Plod insisted I go to the platform for the Bristol train, whereas I wanted the London train, as did a few others. I did not have any colours etc.
We got a bit unhappy with the heavy handed approach and it was only a senior officer who sorted out the problem, even though we had tickets to Northampton and/or London.

I know that it might be a silly question at this stage but does anyone have an idea which pub/pubs we might find ourselves in? I am driving to Oxford from London and I would really like to get in on the atmosphere.
