If there wasn't that amount of police escorting the plymouth fans up they would've been killed. Rovers were all up glos road near the VIC both sides of the road I don't buy this for a minute. As someone else has said, the escorted fans were low key, and definitely not looking for trouble themselves. I suppose the escort is standard, but realistcally, they would have made their way up the gloucester road, individually with no trouble. As others have said, the fact that the Police group everyone together raises "interest". The vast majority have described, drinking with, standing alongside, chatting with Plymouth fans. No trouble. We are not neanderthals. Problem is it only takes one idiot to throw something like a beer glass or can from one crowd into the other and then you've got trouble. If the police are there it won't escalate. I agree we as a general support are not Neanderthals but we do have them and the queen vice seems to be the hang out of choice for some of them.

Before the game about 50 Argyle fans were being escorted by the police and surrounded by vans and horses up the Gloucester Rd. They didn't seem to be a very threatening bunch and were made up of older scarf wearing supporters as well as a few lads. Just past the Ashley Down Rd junction this escort was brought to a halt by the plod because they were headed for a large mob of Rovers outside the Queen Vic and Cafe Grounded opposite. I guess there were about 200 or 300 Rovers fans in the road with traffic brought to a standstill.. We had been walking just behind the Argyle fans and along with everyone else not actually in the escort was told to cross the road and go around. As this was happening I was thinking. whether the police actually cause problems or prevent them. The escort with the horses and the blue lights drew attention to and gave a centre of attention for all the dicks who want to run around throwing handbags and causing disruption. Maybe the escort was necessary because there were people in it who were intent on doing nasty things like smashing up a pub but it didn't look like it to me as they were marched past. If there had been no escort, no flashing blue lights, no horses, no vans the Argyle fans could have just walked up the Gloucester Rd like the normal human beings they are, and there would have been no centre of attention and no drama! Why was it necessary for the police to act the way they did? Is everyone safer because of it (in my view the Argyle fans were less safe!) or do they cause the unnecessary mayhem and disruption that they are trying to prevent? that is what the extra £2 is for, pathetic

But no one did. As well as the escorted bunch, plenty of Plymouth fans did make there way up Gloucester Rd before the game, came past the Queen Vic and there was no trouble.
