I know the big talking point is the "take over" at the moment but I thought I'd attempt to change the subject until Monday lol
In the past a lot of our players have had off the field issues, in particular nights out drinking, Ive been working night clubs for almost 10 years now and have seen many of our players out making drunken fools of themselves (Will Hoskins many times lol) our current squad spend their occasional nights out in my current club pam pam, and I just think it's worth mentioning that they conduct themselves very well, I've got to know some of them personally and it's great to see that so many of them are genuinely nice respectful people, they fill me with confidence that we have a good professional squad and I think that goes a long way on the pitch as well, just thought people might enjoy reading that as I've enjoyed experiencing it. I'm gonna give particular mention to Stu Sinclair, Will Puddy and Ellis Harrison who always take the time to come and have a good chat with me, I'd be interested to hear of other people's off pitch interactions with our players and what people think of them??

Some of the current players meet up in costa in Westbury on trym after training and to a man they interact to any Gashead. I Find Gosling & Mcchrystal (when i can understand him) very approachable and the Goalie coach is ok when he doesn't have a panini in hand...

Steady on now Kyle, the Ellis haters won't like to hear that sort of comment (said with tongue in cheek)

I was very fortunate to have played in the Rovers golf day out at Farrington GC last year and had the chance to have a chat with a few of the players. I have to say that Ellis, Sincs, MattT, DanL, & Locks were all decent blokes and more than happy to chat. The highlight for me was having Manse in our team for the day. He was great company and chatted all afternoon about everything and anything. The impression he gave was that they were a very happy squad and all had a lot of respect for DC. DC did a light hearted presentation of the prizes at the end of the day and his dry wit really shone through. MattT won a prize for something and DC commented "Here's Matty T....he can hit a golf ball but he cant hit the back of the f'ing net" Needless to say it was all very much tongue in cheek, but the feeling I got was that DC and his staff have got the balance right and have assembled tight nit squad of players.

A lot of credit must go to DC for signing players with the right attitude, and the ability to influence the youngsters as to how to behave. Your experience is a huge contrast to when the Rovers golf day was held at a club in my area during John Ward's tenure, when whooping and hollering could be heard all over the course, and a buggy was written off.

We're going through a great, maybe golden period for Rovers. Let's enjoy it to the full while it lasts.

Bottom of the football league for 5 years, relegation to the conference, then a promotion to the 4th division!!! Yep, one hell of a golden period it's been for us.

You're right of course but we are where we are and we have to get out of this division. Few of these players are responsible for being down in Div 4. They are doing as much as possible to get us out and as others have said it is a good squad and that's been said often. The issue of being bottom of Football League for a few years is another matter and responsibility lays elsewhere. But these players and this squad have given us a great 18 month period which compared to what we saw the 3 previous years has been pretty golden. They can only do what they have done and are doing. But yeah, probably not golden age but pretty good. And of course we don't don't know where this squad will take us...another promotion or even a losing play-off and a good season next season people will be talking, quite rightly, about a golden age. UTG!

That's what I meant, Wareham. It might not seem apparent now & could easily go pear-shaped. But if DC continues this way - who knows. I remember when Gerry took over - nearly bankrupt, playing in Bath - things looked bleak. But look what happened. I'd rather be positive.

Most of us are here for life...players, management, board/owners come and go. Severnside stadium comes and goes, UWE comes and (maybe) goes. At the moment we've got 18 months of positive results and watchable performances on the pitch, from individuals and the team as a whole. All true Rovers fans are disappointed at where and why the current run started, but I often wonder why so many hint at the failure around the next corner all the time....

Attendences both home & away suggest fans are enjoying this period more than any other for the last 5 years or so, given we've spent the past decade or so mostly struggling in Div 2 this probably is a "golden period" for most fans who've forgotten/never witneessed what it was like supporting Rovers under Francis & Megson?

Exactly Topper. I'm going to Pompey tomorrow with a modicum of expectation, more than we've been able to hold for some years.

Sadly, this isn't necessarily my experience. I often shop at Tesco's Golden Hill. And I've seen some of the current squad in there, and sometimes their behaviour leaves a bit to be desired. Once I was in there and I saw Harrison and Lockyer arguing over how many lemon bon bons they were gonna have in their pick and mix, and that Macca came over and just stuck some licorice in their bag, without asking.
I saw Parkes and JC running up and down the toiletries aisle. It looked like they were having a race, or something. And Matty was egging them on.
Once, when I went in, Ollie Clarke, Easter, and Manse were sat on the wall outside, larking about, and they shouted 'fatty' and 'big-nose' at some fat, big-nosed lady who was just walking by with her shopping.
Back in the day, istr Joe Jacobson used to hold the door open for people trying to get in and out, and Sammy Igoe used to ask people if they needed help packing their bags.
So, in my experience, player behaviour has gone down hill, quite a bit.

No, 7 months isn't. But I said "going through", the suggestion being it might last a while yet. Here's hoping.
