I didn't think he looked particularly sharp against Coventry at all, tbh. I thought he looked sluggish and a bit off the pace if anything! I think DC played him in one of the wider positions in a 4-3-3 to get him running up and down and get his fitness up a bit.

Its being reported that Thomas and Greenslade are off to Mangoes on loan and Donovan Wilson is injured. That leaves us with 18 even with the remaining first year pros

Bit like when I used to see Harrold in Waitrose buying gluten free lentils and stuff. Then he got injured and I saw him buying coke and cakes and pies and all that. Waitrose ay? Moneybags.

Dinsdale's post in the thread about the team for Saturday has got me thinking: "Very easy job to pick a starting eleven from a squad of 15. Whites still trying to shed the pounds so that leaves 14 starters. On paper it doesnt look a bad team but can we stay injury and suspension free?"
I'm particularly on about the bolded bit about White. I agree that White isn't fit enough atm to be considered a starter, and more than likely it will be Brunt-Taylor as our front two. Now, maybe this is me having an 'Oldie' moment, but personally I don't find that acceptable. This is a bloke who has known for almost two months (signed 8th June) that he will have a new set of supporters to impress this season, at a club where the expectations are sky-high (from some) and the eyes of the Conference will most likely be upon us. That's two months he's had to get himself fit enough to be considered for a place in the starting lineup for the season's opener against Grimsby on Saturday (his job, surely?), and I don't think he is. Instead, a guy who hasn't played a competitive match since 8 th November 2013 (Brunt) will more than likely start up top whilst White is only deemed fit enough to come off the bench. Am I being harsh? Tin hat at the ready... Not harsh at all. I totally agree with you. Most players now are given individual healthy eating plans and are expected to keep themselves in reasonable shape .He has had loads of time and should be raring to go.

While it's totally unacceptable that someone could do a whole pre season not injured but still come through it unfit, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until Saturday.

Anyone see paralells to the start of last season where Ward was heavilly criticsed for having us unprepared for the new season ? 15 players with two games to go would be called a crisis under other managers.

Hmm possibly, but I still foresee one or two coming in tomorrow or Friday, and Ward clearly didn't have players that we needed and was complacent about it. That showed in the final loan window. DC, on the other hand, is still trying to get depth in the squad. The only player I'd say is drastically needed is a winger. Bear in mind, JW planned on using Harrison and Santos as his two first choice wingers this time last year - a move which I said at the time wasn't good enough. If DC brings in another centre-half, then its quite likely both Lockyer and Clarke (two starters last year) will be on the bench.

Not really, we've just been through the biggest crises in the clubs history, we might be abit thin on the ground squad wise, but I think the right approach seems to be being taken, not a time for knee jerk reactions, the easiest thing to have done would have been to sign a dozen new players or more with no real thought in the process.

I see no similarity at all. Ward had a woefully unbalanced squad and I expected more signings after JJOT was signed up - he was the only player we signed.

Err - Tom Parkes last season anyone? His weight gain was obvious to those on the terraces. The question is why did BRFC management allow him to get away with it? Just one symptom of poor management last year. Let's hope we can look forward to a better season this time around!

Thanks for your comments, very interesting reading. For me there are a lot of unknowns about our squad. DC spoke a lot about wanting speedy wingers but looks like going with a 5-3-2 now. A lot of the players have also only played at small clubs and it will be interesting how they cope with the greater pressure of playing for us.
On paper the starting 11 looks good but we are 3 injuries away from struggling to put a team out. A lot of people were happy and optimistic under Ward at this stage last season but I guess hindsight and all that.
All there is to do now is wait and see how it pans out. Im certain DC will have a much greater capacity to challenge any unproffessionalism this season as Ward hated conflict and that is a real plus.
