Accrington Stanley star Josh Windass insists the Reds are not feeling the promotion pressureACCRINGTON Stanley star Josh Windass does not believe the Reds will falter under the promotion pressure as the League Two season reaches a dramatic climax. John Coleman's side could be promoted to League One on Saturday if they win at Wycombe and either Bristol Rovers fail to win or Oxford lose. Should Stanley secure three points this weekend and follow it up with a home victory over Stevenage on the final day they will be promoted regardless of other results, with the Reds holding a two point advantage over fourth place. And Windass, who struck twice as Stanley swept aside York City 3-0 at the Wham Stadium last time out, insists the mood in the camp is relaxed. “ We’re not feeling the pressure,” said Windass, whose weekend brace took him to 16 of the season. “Because we’re not expected to be there I don’t think there is too much pressure. "We just approach the next game, if we win it then great and if we don’t we’re confident we can win the one after that.” Windass' goals mean the frontman is now just one shy of striker Billy Kee's 17 for the season in the Stanley top scorer stakes but the 22-year-old, who will join Scottish side Rangers in the summer on a free transfer, is happy for anyone to grab the goals as long as the results keep coming. “None of us are really bothered about finishing top scorer, as long as we get promoted," Windass told the club's official website. "Naz the kit man can come on and get 20 goals as long as we go up! “The job’s not done. If you’d said to us before the start of the season we’d be guaranteed a play-off place with three games to go we would’ve taken your hand off so to be second with two games to go is unbelievable.” www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/accrington_stanley/news/14450201.Accrington_Stanley_star_Josh_Windass_insists_the_Reds_are_not_feeling_the_promotion_pressure/?ref=macDoes anyone believe Windass? Darrell has purposely kept our players away from the press to avoid making statements like this. Time to play mind games?

I don't know. I'd like to see how a member of his family coped with promotion pressure before deciding.

I can see his point. Same with us as well. The real pressure for me is on Plymouth and Oxford as they should have had this sown up by now as they were so far clear.

I think he's dropped his team mates in it here. Granted, nobody thought they would be where they are. But it's theirs to lose with 2 games to go, there's bound to be nerves and pressure! Windass and Crooks may not feel it due to their comfy move to rangers in the summer, but the rest of the squad are playing for their livelihoods. Wycombe & Carlisle are good outfits and it wouldn't surprise me if both teams get at LEAST a point

Doesnt matter where you were expected to finish, you'll feel pressure. No one would want to lose it in their position, and they know they have to win regardless of what he says.
That's like us saying we don't feel the pressure. Of course we do, we weren't expected to be this high up but I'll be damned if anyone tells us our players aren't bothered about finishing top 3!!!

easy for him to say there is no pressure. Him and Crooks are abandoning them. They know what they will be earning, what div they will play in, etc. No stress for them.
As much as I like Stanley, I hope they don't go up at the DIRECT expense of us, because I really think they will struggle next season whereas for us it could be a turning point.

Can you imagine the nightmare situation where us and Accy end up in the play offs, meet at Wembley, and Josh Windass scores the only goal of the game in the 2nd half from a volley just outside the 18 yard box. We would never hear the end of it.

I guess the fact they've opened up a 2 pts gap on us suggests they aren't struggling too much with the pressure? As far as playing for their livelihoods I'm not sure if that's really the case as most of them will have league contracts somewhere next season unlike York & D&R players?
I still can't understand how Windass & Cooks are putting in such a massive affort when they are both off in the summer!

Well if he truly wants to follow his old man, he'll have to do it via the play-offs

It's a completely different intensity of pressure where they are now though with only 2 games left. As for not understanding Windass and Cooks putting in so much effort? That is a really crazy comment, what do you expect them to do stop trying? It's an excellent opportunity to put a promotion on their cv, players don't win many promotions, titles in their career. Actually can't believe I have to justify why they are trying.

I don't believe him for a second. Every team at the top of the table have slogged away all season to get there, and every footballer will want to progress to the next level. If anything, maybe the pressure for Stanley is greater than for the bigger clubs as it could be their one and only shot at promotion glory....for a long while, at least!

He and the team don't necessarily have to feel under pressure. We might assume they do because it might ne natural to think the teams so close would feel something.. These are sports professionals though, there are all sorts of tricks and diversions that can be used to help the players and staff relax. Boxers can eradicate fear and tension prior to a bout, athletes can remove themselves from the track before an event etc.
All that being said, I don't believe the prik.
