He also played in the Coventry game. I think people who have paid to see him play 180 minutes and also seen Higgins play in 4 + games are quite justified to compare. As yet Leadbitter has not shown any of the flair or excitement that Higgins did. I am very happy with all of DC's other signings. He should have signed Higgins IMHO. The Coventry game was a friendly and to judge any player seriously after a friendly is ridiculous. Higgins may have looked decent but for some reason DC clearly wasn't impressed enough to offer him something and decided he wanted Leadbitter. We'll have to see how the situation develops but I am happy to go with our manager on this one and not a few fans who got overly attached to a trialist. In a year's time people might be justified in saying we should have gone for Higgins but what's the point now? I accept there may have been an issue with Higgins we are not aware of but I think DC should explain. Also why did DC insist on trialling all his new signings if that process is 'ridiculous' Leadbitter was signed based on reputation, I hope he works out, but I for one do not be 'in a year's time' suffering another relegation because of having the wrong team and bringing in the wrong players.

I haven't seem Higgins play but I thought leadbitter was one of our best players in the first half on Saturday. Always quick to make himself available for Mildy and really got stuck in, also played a few decent through passes forward down the line for Brunt ( in a similar way jones used to for Bruno). He faded in the second half and then got a knock and was quickly substituted but I don't think he did a lot wrong at all while he was on. We do probably need another right back though because I don't like the idea of Lockyer playing there , he's a center half or a defensive midfielder and not a right back.

As much as I like Lockyer you are right, with the ball at his feet at right back, it looked like an accident waiting to happen when under pressure.

We seem to be bringing some ok battlers through the ranks but they seem to be a bit lost when it comes to trying to play any football. Lockyer will get away with that because he's a defender but I think Clarke really needs to practice looking up and using the ball quicker and better or he's not going to make it. All these players we're discussing are young though so they do have time to improve their weekness's.

Leadbitter was always DC's first choice, and we didn't sign Higgins because DC thought the Geordie was a better player, simple as that. I saw Higgins at Gloucester, some good runs, but I felt Leadbitter gave us more end product yesterday. The harsh booking seemed to unsettle him a bit.

DC told me at the open day that the reason he went for Leads was because he is stronger mentally. Whilst he agreed Higgins had shown potential, he said it would have taken him 3 months to be mentally prepared for a conference game at The Mem - and I kind of get his point. However, he said that Leads is the right man and that he will fit in and be great for us. I must say i've been quite impressed with him, he can certainly get back and forward very quickly... when he settles a little more and starts to beat his man he'll start a lot of attacks (just as he did at hereford last season).

If we have a problem with injuries at right back, we either play Pierce Mitchell who apparently has signed(?) or get Higgins in on a short term contract - simples. No point signing loads of players who we can't play due to lack of games.

With two players supposedly (don't quote me) coming in today there are going to be a few players not even in the squad and I am not including our youth players. Saturday saw Trotman miss out on a squad place. A Conference team cannot really afford to have pro players not even in the matchday squad. Our squad after today could be
Goalkeepers Mildenhall Defenders Leadbitter Lockyer Parkes Trotman McCrystal Brown Midfielders Mansell Sinclair Monkhouse Clarke Gosling New Winger Harrison Strikers Brunt White Taylor New Striker
Thats 18 players NOT including the young keeper or any of our youth players. So if we don't have a keeper on the bench that will be two players out of those not getting a place on the Matchday squad. I know there will be injuries/suspensions but I don't think, even at this level it will be easy to keep everybody happy.

Not signing Higgins becomes odder by the day, surely he would have played tonight given he played all pre-season but Leadbitter's been dropped after less than one full game.

Still cannot understand it. I have put a lot of faith in DC but that decision started doubts in mind and they are getting greater by the day.
