Having looked him up on Wiki I don't think he's a very inspired choice.
I firmly believe keepers should be able to dominate and own the penalty area. This guy is "only" 6 01", and reading comments on Aberdeens forum stays on his line and doesn't come for crosses and corners. He was only ever at Cheltenham, and spent 10 years there. Released by Aberdeen and wants to move to a club nearer his Midlands home. Hardly a ringing endorsement regarding his motives.
I would have thought there was better out there here, and hope DC can come up with someone better.

That was from 12 months ago? Seems he played the last 8 games for Aberdeen before being released this summer. I guess as No 2 to Mildenhall he sounds suitable but not sure he looks good enough to be our next No 1?

I hate links to the evil post, too many bloody ads and too much waiting for the page to load. Oddly on the mobile version you don't get the irritating adverts: Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke is currently mulling over a move for former Aberdeen and Cheltenham Town goalkeeper Scott Brown, the Post understands. Clarke is set to step up his summer recruitment drive when he returns from a short break in the United States early next week and is expected to target up to five new faces in preparation for life in League One. Strengthening his options between the posts is believed to be high on his agenda after youngster Kieron Preston was released last month to leave Clarke with only Steve Mildenhall, who is the only one of 14 out-of-contract players to have so far agreed to new terms, and Will Puddy, who is currently considering the offer he has been made. Brown is understood to be keen to find employment closer to his family home in the Midlands and exploratory discussions over a possible deal between his representatives and Rovers are believed to have already taken place. The goalkeeper was released by Scottish Premier League runners-up Aberdeen at the end of last season following two successful campaigns. Brown arrived at Pittodrie from Cheltenham Town, where he had held the number one spot for several seasons, and also spent a short spell at Bristol City early in his career after starting out at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Everything you need to know about Bristol Rovers target and former Aberdeen goalkeeper Scott Brown By JamesMcNamara | Posted: June 02, 2016 Bristol Rovers are considering a move for ex-Aberdeen and Cheltenham Town goalkeeper Scott Brown, the Post has been told. What do we know about the 31-year-old's career to date? Where and when was he born? Brown was born in Wolverhampton on April 26, 1985 and still lives in the city. Where did he start his career? Brown started as a junior at Wolverhampton Wanderers before being released in 2003 and signing for League of Wales side Welshpool Town. He made 14 appearances before joining Bristol City in 2004. Where did he make his name? Brown failed to make a single appearance in 12 months at Ashton Gate and was signed by John Ward at Cheltenham Town for the start of the 2005/06 season. Brown predominantly acted as an understudy to Shane Higgs for several season after making being handed his Football League debut in January 2006. Breakthrough season? Brown was made first-choice goalkeeper soon after Martin Allen took charge at Whaddon Road in 2008. He displaced long-time number one Higgs and went on to make 40 appearances before the end of a season in which Cheltenham were relegated. He retained his place at the top of the pecking order when Mark Yates replaced Allen at the helm at the end of 2009. Brown was forced to sit on the bench for long spells, but kept his head down and earned a new two-year-deal. He stayed in charge of the number one shirt for the next two seasons before turning down the offer of a new deal to seek a new challenge in the Premier League. Players 'not trying' controversy Brown publicly criticise two unnamed players for not trying when speaking to the media in a post-match interview at Rochdale towards the end of his final season. Watch: Scott Brown criticises unnamed players who admitted they weren't trying in training Aberdeen Brown signed for Aberdeen in the summer of 2014. He made 38 appearances over two seasons. He quickly earned number 1 status at Pittodrie and was part of a side that claimed a club record-breaking eight clean sheets in a row. He was replaced by Jamie Langfield following a poor spell of form last season but retained his place for the final eight games of the campaign as Aberdeen finished second behind Celtic in the Scottish Premier League.

I will support anyone DC brings in, but those comments from every Aberdeen fan in that thread aren't promising. Fans of former clubs are usually a decent judge. Personally I'd like to see us go after a top league two keeper that wants to make the step up.

This is a weird one. I remember when he was Cheltenham keeper and replaced by Bitland when he came on loan. Cheltenhm fans never really rated him that highly.

I didnt think he was great whilst he was Cheltenham keeper, assuming it is a number 1 we are looking for (and not as a backup to Mildy) we should be aiming higher.

I wonder what will happen first, new player signs, or an existing player extends deal

Certainly not a keeper who I would consider to be a "potential" number 1 and I would place him as very similar to Puddy with more League experience but very little extra quality. Sorry folks but if this is the best keeper DC can bring in then heaven help us. We need a keeper of at least LEAGUE 1 experience to push Mildenhall to the limit. I would like to see the owners at least giving DC the chance to go for players who other clubs WANT to keep rather than the "throw outs". We are now entering a League containing some BIG clubs and to compete with them we need to add 5 or 6 QUALITY players who are better than what we have to at least push our existing players (if they do sign!). For me moving to League 1 is completely new territory for DC but a step he is more than capable of taking. Whatever people say though it is a learning curve and there will be mistakes on the way and hopefully with the owners financial backing it will be the first time for DC to prove that he is capable of making big signings. Many will say that this was the mistake of previous Managers in trying to sign bigger players but I would say they just picked the wrong ones and wasted money whereas I would trust DC to make better decisions which is the secret of getting VALUE FOR MONEY. Previous Managers have paid good money for rubbish.
