Profile: Bristol Rovers promotion spinner Darrell Clarke“He’s just a top, top bloke,” said Harris. “I know for a fact that he received hundreds of text message when Rovers got promoted and he replied to all of them. “That’s just the measure of him as a lad. He’s very humble. He works hard. “He puts his heart and soul into everything. Bristol Rovers fans have seen that and it’s why they love him.” *This article was originally published in The FLP on 15 May 2016. www.theleaguepaper.com/featured/5155/profile-bristol-rovers-promotion-spinner-darrell-clarke/Do read the whole article.

Great article, good read. No doubt Massimo Cellino also read the article! Hence his knee-jerk reaction.

Really good article. Can't believe Parkesy came out with a word like 'engendered' mind.

The pain of seeing his hometown club Mansfield relegate us out of the league must have been like a dagger to the heart.

This whole sub plot of the manager who was defeated and wanted out rising to eternal club legend has been irrisistible.
I've often remarked that these 2 seasons were like a fairy tale. Even down to the spooky similarities on the last day of 15:16 and 13:14. One goal needed, ball won't go in. The match was like a second chance at Mansfield, a reminder of the bad time, the tears, the disbelief, the hopelessness of a forlorn young manager, watching his big chance in the game crumple and degrade in front of his eyes. It was so strangely reminiscent, and to bury our collective demons with Clarke as the focal point was brilliant - the personified representation of the woes of the entire club. DC's transition from villain to hero has been an apt metaphor for the entire journey of the club, indeed as many supporters left only to return once more.
The DC story fills me with misty eyed reverence and respect. I've often questioned the cringeworthyness of idolising people, but genuinely DCs story.....if it isn't something to stand back and say "that's how you do life" then I don't know what is.

got to be Nobby with the Fez I'm too tall, and blonde, and if I attempt his Northern accent I just end up sounding like a Pakistani !

In my experience, it is vital (5 second pause) nay indeed artistic to insert the correct pause length (3 second pause) at the right time. (see what I done there).
