Although his recent goalscoring record isn't great- some nice finishes in here.

Feel all we really now need are a CM and another striker, assuming MT moves on, it's hardly a worry we haven't got them with over a month to go to the start of the season? Not worried at all. Gaffney, Bodin, James, it's all good. My only worry is keeper.

This isn’t comprehensive and/or fully up to date, but the other three teams promoted with us last year have all lost more players from their squads than Rovers, so it is not surprising that they have had to bring in new faces. AFC Wimbledon released Callum Kennedy, Sean Rigg (since signed for Newport) and Adebayo Akinfenwa. Ade Azeez has signed for Partick Thistle and midfielder Connor Smith has joined Plymouth Argyle from Wimbledon Oxford United released five players after promotion to League One. Johnny Mullins, Jordan Bowery, Pat Hoban (joined Mansfield), Freddie Grant and AJ George. Danny Hylton has also departed for Luton after he rejected a new deal with Oxford. In addition, loan players Jonjoe Kenny, George Waring and Jordan Evans have returned to their parent clubs. Northampton have also lost players. Josh Lelan, Paul Corry, Chris Hackett and Evan Horwood have all been released. Ryan Clarke was also released by Northampton Town, but has signed for AFC Wimbledon as you say. Importantly, they have also lost Ricky Holmes after he handed in a transfer request and has now joined Charlton. Released players usually means not wanted. I did mention Northampton losing Holmes and us likely to lose Taylor. So far, Wimbledon and Oxford have kept their biggest assets. I don't fear Rovers struggling but Taylor going would be a massive loss - 27 goals, his great link-up play and his many assists - although James is a good signing I don't think he is good enough to replace Matty. We shall wait and see who else is coming - sounds like just 2 - a goalkeeper and a central defender/left back ?

I'm sure EVERYONE is deflated that we are probably losing our 27-goal striker from last season and as things stand we have only brought 2 new faces in- defender Hartley from Plymouth and wide man Moore (ex-Port Vale). Our promotion rivals from last season have all been busier so (although this isn't a race of course) it would be good to get a replacement for Taylor and a few others in to get us REALLY EXCITED again about this coming season, cos as things stand, minus Taylor and the 2 newbies, I'm not thinking we are going to take L1 by storm ! As a comparison, here's what our rivals from last season have signed so far: Oxford 6 players: Gk Eastwood (ex-Blackburn) FOR Thomas ( ex- Birmingham) Def Martin (ex- Coventry) Def Ribeiro ( ex-Exeter) MID Cowley ( Loan from Arsenal) DEF Nelson (ex- Plymouth) Northampton 7 players (although they've lost their talisman, Ricky Holmes to Charlton : DEF Zakuani ( ex- Peterbro) MID McCourt (ex-Barnsley) GKs Cornell (ex- Oldham ) and Paddy Kenny (player /coach) FOR Ravell (ex- MK Dons) LB Hanley (ex- Swansea) DEF Phillips ( ex- Coventry) Wimbledon 4 players: FOR Poleon (ex-Oldham) MIDS Parrett and Whelpdale ( ex-Stevenage) GK Ryan Clarke (ex-Gas and last at Northampton). UTG ! The last two pre seasons were very slow and everyone got worried and then he got a few in late on and in january and we went up. Remember DC saying how much cheaper players are once you get to august and they all worry about getting a club

Agreed, but we only released scholars and have chosen not to release any senior pros like the others - hence we still have players for every position. Roofe is under contract, but Leeds and others are sniffing - a £3m price tag may put them off. Keep the faith, Matty Taylor has not gone yet and there is a reasonable chance that he will still be with us. I sense Darrell Clarke has looked at Luke James early promise and, like Taylor, believes that he can improve him as a player. He was a hot property at H'pool in his first spell, but seems to have lost his way since the move to P'bro. Having said all of that, I would expect one or two more signings, possibly more because of the loan restrictions this season.
