That's interesting and I enjoyed reading it up until 'by popular demand' I certainly don't remember any chants about changing the shirts or seeing any petitions. I suppose that you will never please everyone so 'general approval' could be correct, I remember quite a bit of moaning when the quarters were reintroduced probably from people my age who were used to the plain shirts. Although the vast majority of Rovers supporters identify with the quarters,Retro Rover t shirts based on the old blue with white trim kit have been a steady seller and are occasionally seen being worn at games complete with old style club crest.
By popular demand I meant that in general supporters missed our tallismatic strip . Of course there wasnt any chanting or petitions but yes maybe general approval was a more accurate description of opinion, I was pleased they returned but , even though I'm very much a traditionalist I did like the plain Blue shirts and it wouldnt worry me if, one day we returned to them, but as you say you cant please everyone ,It might however shut the Sh*theads up as they,ve always referred our quarters as 'Rugby Shirts' I don't think you could get rid of the quarters, now. There really would be chants and petitions if they tired. Istm it's gone beyond a 'that was a design we used for a while among a number of designs' to most Gas identifying with the blue and white quarters more than any other of our traditions.

They'll come up with something regardless of what we wear. Probably a mark of envy about how unique our kit is. How many teams wear all red?

I am puzzled by your thinking: You are on about the 1950's team, so I do not see where you are coming from about returning to the kit, as we carried on wearing it until the early 60s, when we got relegated..........and, as a matter of interest, I became a Rovers fan (hence my date of starting supporting them on my profile). *** I think we just had a more forward thinking marketing set up in the early 70s that realised that the quarters were special. *** A pirate then as Gasheads did not exist. I have heard two versions of why we stopped wearing it: One is because we got relegated in it; The other, which I much prefer, is that we used to have a full back called Gwyn Jones. To me he looked about 50 plus when he played, due to his lack of hair. The story goes that when Rovers played in all blue, he was so shortsighted that he could not tell the difference between a team mate and the ref, so he frequently passed the ball to the ref. Obviously. the second instance cannot be correct as who would keep such a player in the team?..................... oooh, hang on, we are on about Rovers here, innit I think Topper is right in that the Rovers 50's side were iconic, IMO this is the team that was instrumental in future generations supporting the Gas to this day. The quarters were and still are iconic too they are our special identity as they are unique in top flight football. I would imagine they are a wonderful tool for a marketing expert. BTW Gwyn Jones was a excellent talented full back. I can't recall him passing to the referee often! Good story though. I reckon alongside our nicknames and identity of being the Gas and Pirate heritage, if we can sort out the stadium and get ourselves back on level pegging, that we will be an infinitely more marketable and attractive option than our red neighbours. Huge potential to start taking the neutral fan base, people new to the city and those from outside.

So of our previous home strips only the Black Arab kit or the green and buff Bristol Eastville Rovers kit could reasonably be adopted as an away alternative strip. Can't see us singing come on you Green and Buffs though can you?

I can never understand why we don't adopt the yellow with black slash as our away shirt, this seasons away shirt looks as boring as they come, at least in the photos.

As long as we wear blue and white quarters at home and the clubs doing well on and off the pitch I don't really care whether the away kits boring, has trim, or if we wear blue shorts or white shorts with the quarters. I'm also glad we haven't got a logo of a lady garden on our shirts and no hashtags either but what sort of sh**e club would do that eh ?!.

The quarters really matter to me (I suspect also many others). First time I saw Rovers as a young un they were in quarters but the next year they weren't and it wasn't so special to me as a ten/eleven year old. Soon got used to change but pleased when 73 came round and back came the quarters. By then I was living in London and married but it still meant enough for me to notice and reawaken my support. Caught the bus to Loftus Road to watch us play QPR, we lost but I gained a feeling of belonging again. I had been really lucky in the 60's in going to school with Pete Gildersleve (who handed the goal of the season trophy to Billy Bodin at the end of last season). His older sister Jane (later Browne) was probably the most dedicated Rovers fan ever - she predated "Gashead" as a term but she epitomised Gasheads - follow the club anywhere regardless of success. Over fifty years on from standing together in the South Enclosure at Eastville Pete and I now sit in the West Stand. He travels for 5 or 6 hours for every Saturday home game! Midweek games are a real problem for him due to being self employed and not quite so good with late nights now. Jane (or was it Jayne?) was our first BRSC representative on the club board - thoroughly deserved - but not enjoyed as being prominent wasn't what she wanted, just the best for Rovers. The minutes silence at The Mem acknowledging her passing a few years back showed how many knew and respected her - and what belonging means to Gasheads. It's what makes the club special, along with quarters.

But having an attractive away shirt must lead to more sales, the Black Arab shirt is probably the only away shirt I ever bought, which leads to more revenue/potential for more success on the pitch. Unless you always buy the away shirt I personally can't any attraction in buying this season's, unless it looks a lot more striking in the flesh. Although as first attempts by the new owners/Macron we can't complain too much.

Topper, how come you're an expert on away shirts if you've only ever bought one?

Topper, how come you're an expert on away shirts if you've only ever bought one? In the same way that everyone on here knows how to manage Bristol Rovers even though they've never managed a whelk stall.
