I smell a rat with this guy. We need a winger, Clarke used to manage him at Salisbury and Salisbury fans (and others) seem to think he is a promising young winger, he ticks every box that Clarke wants ticking on the face of things and yet Clarke said he didn't sign him because he didn't think he would mentally be able to handle playing for us. (Sound familiar?)
In the mean time, he signed for "promotion rivals" Forest Green Rovers instead.
More proof IMO that the board are not backing Clarke. I really do feel for the bloke as it a high pressured job he has took on without the board making it more difficult for him.
Clarke in, board out!

If you are not necessarily a confident person and need constant reassurance it is going to be difficult if you get 750 fans. He is used to that at Salisbury.
That however is a bit different to getting 7500 fans on your back and maybe Clarke knows the guy and made the comment accordingly

It might have been a genuine comment but in my eyes it was more a case of getting outdone financially by tital rivals Forest Green. Clarke was covering the board with his comment IMO. This board like yes men like Clarke, BSS etc.

Let's say DC was interested in him. Then FGR come along with the endless cheque book they seem to possess. I'm sure our budget could be better off used on two players.

Yeah I agree but in general the board are not backing Clarke sufficiently enough to challenge for the title. Clarke is the right man.

Another example of them being damned if the do damned if they don't.
During the summer the board were heavily criticized for paying big salaries and budgeting for 9000 crowds and now they are being criticized for being realistic..............

He may be but other then success in part time football at a club with bigger resources then their rivals what has he done whilst at Rovers to convince you?

I believe he is up against it with our board and has made some good signings given the pathetic budget he has quite clearly been given. Also we are playing a much better style of football under him.

You say that, but we out-waged them on Taylor and Turley, both of whom they wanted to keep. I don't think that came down to wages. Taylor's chances were getting few and far between especially with the other strikers they have on their books. Turley refused contract as he wanted to move to a league club. So guessing he burnt his bridges.

I agree, and I am sorry but any club that can attract 7000 size home crowds should never be financially outgunned by clubs that average less than a quater of that number. Higgins and Frear are exactly the type of players we all could see we needed. Instead we sign players who have struggled at this level. Oh, and buying and playing a striker who is at least a stone overweight does not inspire confidence either.
