I think the majority of people who went tonight probably aren't educated on the matter to be honest. A lot of people will just go to watch Rovers but they don't read fans forums or really look indepth into football the way most forum users do. I bet a lot of tonight's fans didn't even know it was an u-23s side we were playing and thought it was just Reading. I bet if somebody had interviewed everybody coming out after the game and educated them on the situation then a lot of them wouldn't go to anymore shitfest cup games either. There will always be people who slip through the net in these kind of situations and there will be people who don't care and only went to get away from the kids or wife for a couple of hours. What a load of nonsense, I went tonight and none of these things is true for me, I am well aware of the reason to why some people have decided not to come tonight but they wont stop me from going to see rovers. In future if you want to write such patronising and spiteful comments, please remember that we are all gasheads!

Genuine question.

What are people's thoughts on going to the NON u23 games or are you taking a stance in every game because theyve been included in the competition??

This is the question I've been trying to answer to myself. If we go do we just validate the whole tournament or do we show our support for the proper league one and two sides who should be in it?

Genuine question. I back U23/B teams in the EFL Trophy as I think it is a good way for youngsters to experience football at a senior competitive level which I think may be important if we want to bring up a successful generation of young English players. I however do not support a league 3 competition, if that happens then lower league clubs will lose out you are right. I am not looking for an argument and respect your opinion also, In my mind the people that are introducing these new formats are not the evil, money driven people they are purported to be but are just looking at ways that will allow us to be a successful footballing country in the years to come.

Not sure I've seen quite so much division here since the Brexit and Ellis Harrison threads earlier this year.
The problem with non attendance is that it becomes a statistic and statistics can be manipulated to suit. The villains here are the FA not fellow fans, as we can't boycott the FA directly then we have to target their source of income. For this competition it's Checkatrade.
What I am proposing is a mass emailing of Checkatrade with a brief explanation, something along the lines of "Dear Sir, I am sending you this email as a sign of my disapproval of the way the Under 23 teams have been parachuted into a competition that now bears your name. This in contrary to the spirit and ethos of the game and I regret that until these teams are removed I will not be using your services and will be advising my friends and family to do the same." Their contact details are contact@checkatrade.com
Keep it simple and respectful. The number of fans of the lower leagues must be measured in several hundred thousands. Imagine a mass emailing, say 8pm on Thursday and Checkatrade having 10,000 emails on Friday morning. It will slow them down and make them put pressure on the FA.
I know, wishful thinking, but surely better than us turning on ourselves.

Are you aware Reading fielded 7 foreign players tonight?

The utter greed of the wealthy clubs has created the worst England team I have ever seen whilst the good English lads are held back in the reserves. Now they have hundreds of excess players why not loan them out to smaller clubs instead of trying to push smaller clubs out the way. We used to get top players dropping down leagues towards the end of their career, now they are so rich they dont need to. This competition was created so that a League 1 or League 2 side could get to Wembley now they are destroying that because they only care about the rich clubs.

I have been an avid Rovers supporter since 1974. Go to most games, home and away. I get very agitated if Rovers are playing and I am not there I need to be near a tele or have the radio on. I hate not knowing what is happening.... Until now. Just got home from the pub read through this thread and remembered that we are playing in the Freight Rover cup. I did not see a mention of the result, but the thing is I don't care. I am not going to the Rovers website or bbc.com. I just don't care!

on a positive note attendances on the whole were very poor tonight lets hope it stays that way despite the naive simplistic people who have attended.

Sky sports reporting many clubs recorded lowest ever attendances and other clubs were very close.

Just because you knew the situation and the possible repercussions of going to the match it doesn't mean everybody did. I think you've read my post and taken it as some kind of personal dig at you ? Everybody is different and we have our own opinions on why we want to go or not go to games , your post suggests that everything I said is wrong because it doesn't apply to you which to be quite honest is rediculous. I haven't once said in here that people who go to the competition are letting themselves or the club down I've just given my reasons for not going and given some other reasons why some people might still have gone. Get a grip.

Record low attendances tonight "The revamped Checkatrade Trophy has begun with record low attendances, managers named as substitutes and a 15-year-old for whom the club needed permission to play from his headteacher."

On those who attended tonight, hope you're happy when premier and championship second string sides are playing league 1&2 football because that'll be the next hair brained scheme. Give yourselves a pat on your back 🙈 p**s off you silly tosspot! - I've supported the Gas all over the country home and away over the past 25 years even tho I'm only 34.I couldn't get a ticket for Chelsea, didnt really desire one if Im honest, I also couldn't get a ticket for Swindon due to my work hours right now.I'm lucky if I can get to 5-10 games both home and away a season - but due to beinging off work tonight I choose to go to support my club as I wanted to watch the Gas. I'm 100% in support of the clubs supporters boycott of this competition, but don't judge everyone that choose to go like myself as you make yourself look like a dick.

The problem will always be the blind loyalty of fans that are too ignorant to see the bigger picture.
Fans that will happily still go down even when:-
- They are getting completely mugged off by the EFL and the top flight teams, effectively spending their hard earned cash so that divas can get paid more week than they're likely to see in a lifetime.
- They are watching a team full of convicted criminals (we know who we're talking about)
- They are getting completely shafted by a chairman who changes their colours from blue to red, but they do absolutely nothing because they're in the Prem and don't want to rock the boat.
It's all very well trotting out 'I just wanted to watch Rovers', but they need to have a look at themselves and realising what they are endorsing.

Would normally agree with you there Henbury, but I'm not sure there is an opinion that it was correct to go to this game.

Would normally agree with you there Henbury, but I'm not sure there is an opinion that it was correct to go to this game. There is no right or wrong opinion on this subject and i mostly do agree with what you are saying, but what i'm having a problem with on here with my fellow gasheads, is that i have the right to choose to go to the game if i so wish, not be dictated to by other posters who do not want me to go
