I wrote off the season as soon as we signed Dave Martin.
We clearly need a top player that can create chances and we sign a bloke who wasn't deemed good enough to get a squad number by Luton this season and wasn't deemed good enough for a Luton team trying to win promotion from the Conference. It reminds me a lot of last season when we desperately needed a striker and we signed another cast off (Beardsley). This is not aimed as a dig at Dave, best of luck to the bloke. It is just more evidence of the board's lack of ambition.
All summer we have been signing Conference players on the cheap and only put a small squad together. Clarke has clearly missed out on several signings because the board will not back him sufficiently and there was a hint of frustration from Clarke the other week as regards to signing a winger. We've gone from trying to sign the likes of Balanta who has signed for a league one club to signing a conference club's cast off.
I'm not saying Clarke is perfect, (far from it esepcially with the amount of constant changes) but I don't think he has been managed well. The warning signs were from the start of the summer when Higgs wasn't even able to confirm that Clarke would be staying as manager, that was a lack of support for the bloke from the start. The root problem stems from the
If we fail to beat Telford at home or play sh*t again then I don't know where we go from there?

Far to early to write off the season but the problems do stem from the top and I should imagine the BoD are not a harmonious camp at the moment. Sainsbury hold the key to where we go next.

I dont think its lack of ambition at all. I have no doubt that Nick H and Geoff D would love to be playing in the Championship, no doubt at all. But they have lost their way, refuse to acknowledge that they are making mistakes, they have developed a bunker mentality as they get ever more defensive in their public utterances. Until they recognise the administrative and managerial chaos into which they have decended, then the downward spiral will only continue.

Why do they need ambition? Do Chairman higher up make money OR spend more? Does being at a higher level mean you are a smaller fish in a bigger pond?

Thing is whatever the BoD do they will get a bashing. spend too much. We are wasting money especially if the player or manager fails to work out. we don't spend enough they lack ambition. Don't get me wrong i'm as frustrated and angry as the next guy. ... We can all see something is seriously wrong in Box1 and for the sake of the future of the club it needs to be sorted. I have a very strong gut feeling we will get more bad news before we turn the corner and see things slowly get better. Be prepared to stay in this division for a minimum of 3 seasons.

Then? Go down or out of business? Next season in this league will see very small home gates which is a non affordable spiral imo.

Be honest with yourself GGMI, if you were a top player would you sign for a NON League club or one in the Football league?

But Bideford Isnt the real question why are the players we do have performing so badly? I refuse to accept that yesterdays opponents have a larger budget than us, that they had a better recruitment process in the off season. Yet we lost, again.

Lack of ambition or just a lack of money created by the UWE project? Not really sure who you can blame for Beardsley's signing the BoD or JW, as January's failings seems to have been the latter if you believe NH.

I don't believe anything that comes out of his mouth, that is the problem. John Ward was shocking as manager last season but he was made THE scapegoat in my eyes whilst everybody else gets off scot free.

You could same the about clubs who signed Harrold, Woodards & Norborn but they may well be assets for those clubs this season.
