We are now 10 league games into the season, so it's worth looking at how things stand in the Player Ratings. Threads from previous seasons are here: 14/15 and 15/16These are the player averages for the first ten games. The third column contains their average rating from last season. The new metric Average Difference compares each player's rating to the team average for the matches that they play. For example, if against Northampton the team average was 6.6 and Roberts scores a 7.0, his difference is +0.4. Since playing in a win often gives a player a good rating regardless, this shows how players compare to their teammates in the same game. (There's also some weighting by minutes played involved in these scores but that isn't worth going into)Player | Average Rating | Last Season | Average Difference | Clarke-Salter | 7.58 | n/a | +0.75 | McChrystal | 7.20 | 6.86 | +0.11 | Roos | 7.18 | n/a | +0.42 | Lines | 7.04 | 6.81 | +0.61 | Easter | 6.95 | 5.99 | +0.43 | Montano | 6.87 | 6.24 | +0.05 | Moore | 6.84 | n/a | +0.09 | Lockyer | 6.70 | 7.17 | +0.17 | Colkett | 6.67 | n/a | -0.11 | Taylor | 6.60 | 6.31 | +0.14 | J. Clarke ( 2) Moore ( 1) Harrison ( 1) Sinclair ( 1) Clarke-Salter ( 1) Poster averagesThese are the average ratings this season and last for all of those posters who have given 4 or more ratings in league games. What I've also done this season is to look at poster scores per player. I've compared each poster's rating to the average to see which player they give higher than average scores to (Overrate) and which they give lower than average scores to (Underrate). These scores are just a bit of fun and I don't think posters should change their ratings in the future to rectify this. However, no prizes for guessing which poster underrates which player by the biggest margin.

We are now 20 league games into the season and this is the current state of the season scores from the Player Ratings threads. Player StandingsThe standings have a slightly odd look with Boateng and James Clarke the top two. This is due to the fact that they haven't played often in the last few games and haven't seen their ratings plummet as a result of a bad defeat. The Average Difference therefore shows a truer picture, with Chris Lines far and away outperforming his teammates. The Average Difference only takes into account the ratings in games in which the specific player takes part. It is a measure of how they compare to their teammates in those games only. Will you be doing another average after 30 games? I love looking at these stats. Your hard work is definitely appreciated. Would be interesting to see some of these with the amount of talk there is going on at the minute about who is and isn't good enough for a promotion push and who needs replacing next season. UTG!

Non-player ratings are interesting. It seems that both Rovers and our opponents have been getting progressively worse as the season has gone on but the referee's and crowds have been getting better. Not too sure what to get out of those stats but interesting nevertheless. (I love a good spreadsheet I do)

Thanks Kodos - interesting.
Thought Bodin's ranking would be much higher than 11, although I suppose he had a slow start to the season.

After some delay, here are the season player averages from the Player Ratings Threads. This season, I've also been tracking the scores of each player relative to the team average for each match. The Contribution score is a sum of these differentials and aims to give a crude analysis of the total impact a player has had on Rover's season (at least according to posters on this forum). Player |

Love your work Kodos but this proves stats are bollocks! How the hell has James contributed more to our season than Harrison??!! The madness of some peoples ratings I suppose?

That's Bob Harris. Ellis is above LJ. Nope, Harrison is ranked 33 for effectiveness. James is 32 In this case its about who has negatively impacted the team the most. James played a lot less minutes and games than Harrison so had less of a (negative) impact. Also, these aren't 'proper' stats anyway as they're all based off of opinions.
