Reminds me of the start of the season and just before it, people forgetting the previous two years under DC and posting concerns about our transfer dealings. This isn't a dig, but Steve himself question who of our new signings have improved the squad, or similar to that effect. Under DC it seems the squad game is much more important than the quality of any one player. Just had a quick look at our team when we beat Yeovil 1-0 last time we were in league one. The difference is the strength on the bench compared to today is huge. How many of them would get in the current team? I would even take the current version of Lines given he has a better mentality under DC. 36 Logan 05 Coles yellow card 06 Tunnicliffe 15 Anthony 37 Senda 04 Lines 07 Campbell (Brown 90+3) 11 Hughes 22 Pell (G Williams 61) 08 Hoskins 17 Kuffour (McCracken 85) Substitutes 13 Green, 31 McCracken, 14 Brown, 19 Lambe, 20 Reece, 35 G Williams, 18 Richard I forgot what half of thoses look like, sad to say for them - Proves how great this era of players are.. Fairly grim assembly...remember when our options for certain positions were between players that we were less than enthusiastic about? Matthews, Tait or Justin Richards up front, Hyde, Rob Quinn or Savage in midfield. Bubb, Weare or Gall another thrilling attacking trio! Boxall, Parker, Austin and co in defence....there were times when the squad was littered with make weights and no quality or even die for the shirt enthusiasm...what a difference now. I can honestly say DC can pick any eleven from our squad and I know I'm going to enjoy watching them play and they WILL put in a performance not go through the motions....refreshing!

its strange to me that the op and others dont understand why the manager picks sinclair/ollie clarke someone called them blockers!! every good team needs the midfield battler/tackler type player, lines, colkett and boateng need them too, even the best teams in the world use this type of midfielder, they win the ball and pass it to a better footballer simple. Quite right, I remember how badly we missed Pritchard when he got injured some years ago. We were flying into that point.

Its all about opinions 1973 and not about "understanding why DC picks them". It depends how they do that part of the job and how they fit into the unit. The problem for me with Ollie Clarke is inconsistency as he can play very well one game but I can pretty well guarantee that he will be poor the next. Sinclair is the opposite for me -gets involved a lot ,very comsistent but breaks up and slows down the play too much and far too often passing backwards and sideways when forward passes are on and this is often back to central defenders who can't pass well. As I always say the report is my opinion of the game and that could be very different to others opinions which is the great joy of football.
DC is a brilliant Manager but it will be a sad day when everybody agrees with everything he does. He isn't always right as he says himself but his results show that he generally gets it right by the end of the game unlike for example John Ward who would just plod on regardless with the same old boring tactics and you could time going to the toilet with when he was going to use his substitutes unless it was due to injury.
Long may I have Darrell Clarke to comment on!! and people like 1973 to have sensible discussions with. UTG

I'm with Steve on this one with the midfield and have been all season. People talk about first half Sincs and Clarke protecting our fullbacks but it was the formation that let Northampton attack. I've seen every game this season bar one and it's only worked once at Southend where we went in front.
Saturday first half was just like the first halves in both the Swindon games, we invited them onto to us. When Sinclair has left the pitch all of a sudden Lines and now Colkett are allowed to dominate the with wingers to pass to.
But we do need Sincs in the squad and to start for some games. If DC is to persist with him I would play him on the right in a role where he still chases the ball down in the middle. I would play Byron Moore on the other flank and when he goes forward the midfield shuffles over which includes Sincs.
I can't remember a second half for a long time like at Cobblers where we have played to our strengths and battered a side like we did of them. We can't sit on games until the back four start keeping clean sheets, personally I prefer the we'all score more goals than you formations we've seen when behind and had to win games.

Thanks for the write up as always , Steve.
We are probably at a good time in the season to have a review of the players and I'd be interested in people's views on the loan players. It seems Roos and Colkett have, in particular, proven to be players we would want to keep. How realistic that is will have to wait and see, unlikely in the two Chelsea players and Connor Roberts.
I see in the Post last week that DC doesn't expect too much activity in January so I guess that he is happy with how things are in terms of numbers, characters and positions covered.
