Hate this sort of article which tells us nothing we didn't already know, it's just stating the obvious. Usual waffle from Bristol Post. It's all grand plans, but When are we going to see some timescales. Well they have started to build the academy is that soon enough for you ?

My interpretation, for what it's worth as I have no contacts to base it on, is that nothing significant had changed with the club infrastructure since we returned to Bristol whereas other teams have pressed ahead, hence the 15 year reference.
I think the UWE reviews are to work out how it will happen, not if.
The training ground is pressing ahead, subject to the formal agreement with S Glos. I can't see this being announced without knowing what was likely to be agreed. When we had our extension built, the council was able to tell us what we could and couldn't do. There simply was no point in asking for something that was going to be rejected.
The academy and physio department are being expanded. The physio turned down the Paralympics to take the job with us so something significant is happening there, we just may not be able to see it.
In terms of Championship football, I still think last season's promotion was a bonus so we are a year ahead of schedule, meaning that Wael's and Steve Hamer's job has become more pressing. If it starts soon and is all in place within 2 seasons then we can try for the play offs knowing that Championship football won't necessarily be a one season cameo.

Have they really I thought they were in a 60 day consultation period and were doing some minor preparatory clearing work, but I'm sure you know so much more.

I read HG's comments as meaning building the Academy by employing Hargreaves & co not building the training ground for the Academy to play on? Although we have got timescales for the training ground, 60 days consultation as you say, with looking to have something ready for DC come the summer assuming S Glos give us the go ahead given, apart from the Family enclosure roof, we've never built anything for decades this must be a positive move, if it happens?

As Topper said, we have employed loads of staff to work in the academy in preparation to moving to the new site. Hugo once said attack the post not the poster

Let's not all get excited and worked up; we all know these projects are not going to happen any time soon, if at all, lets get behind the football team and concentrate staying in div 1.

I guess the failings of previous boards has been in not purchasing and building training facilities that could give a good long term chance of producing higher grade youngsters. Also may have helped in attracting players (?) . The perpetual smokescreen of new stadium talk or new stands or new rebuild masked the boards actual status of not being wealthy enough to run a club of Bristol rovers size. They could only ever limp along papering the cracks and hope one manager got lucky. Hindsight makes things seem obvious ,but all the wasted money over the years could have been combined with a fans scheme to buy and build a training set up. I guess under the Dunfords and Higgs it was just a case of surviving? Or that's the impression they like to give fans anyway, once we had returned to Bristol/the Mem.

That's DC's job, but speaking as fans do we really think we can compete with the Championship sides at the moment?
I was just looking at the Championship table and the only club we compare with is Burton judging by stadium and resource. The rest seems to be clubs with big financial backing or ex Premiership clubs with new or modern updated stadiums. I would have said Brentford but investigating further they seem to have a bit of money to spend on players these days (eg Rico Henry), when will we ever spend £1.5 million on one player? (I'm not saying we have to but that's what we will be up against).
I think currently with the infrastructure as it is we would be the whipping boys, and there is no saying what impact that could have including possibly putting us on a downward spiral. The only saving grace would be the opposition wouldn't like coming to the Mem so we could be saved with home form, but even that is clutching at straws for me.
The 'teds have struggled despite having one of the richest guys in the south west bank rolling them, we would be out of our depth.

Firstly I was agreeing with an earlier post that we were not being told anything new. My point about the timescales was purely selfish as I would like get some idea if there is any chance of me living to see any of these plans come to fruition. I have supported this club for fifty years and my dearest wish is that I might one day see my side play championship football at home in a shiny new stadium. I am sorry I can't get as exited about a proposed new academy because I think it will be pretty pointless without a new stadium.

Problem is if you don't aim for promotion there's always the danger we'll get sucked into a relegation fight, as we did when we got relegated to the Conference. If we do managed to make the Play Offs you can hardly see DC saying, "sorry lads there's no way we can survive next season so don't even think about winning!!" if we do somehow get there I assume the playing budget will depend on how close we are to building the UWE. Having said that there does seem a massive gulf between the quality of the players in Div 1/2 compared to the Championship, it's amazing how well Burton have done so far this season.

Don't underestimate the power of having a team rather than a bunch of expensive individuals.
Also, whilst a new stadium would obviously be nice and is necessary asap, it doesn't win games for you. If we were good enough to get promoted this season I'm confident that with DC's ability, Wael's resources and the great team we already have we would hold our own in the Championship.

DCs unproven ability even at LG1 level? Waels resources? No evidence of any yet! Great team? By what standards? We scraped promotion from the league below! We have decent team spirit and squad depth but to suggest we have a 'great team' is a bit ott. Suggesting we would hold our own in the league above whilst we are still noobies in this division is the type of statement which loses us credibility as a collective fanbase. We go 1 down pretty much every game. That would be a bit harder to overcome a level up.
